"Why am I just now hearing about this transition? How long have the SoCal locals that attend meetings known about this?" There was a short note from Winnie in one of the Manx Mania issues a while back. I don't remember which one it was, and they do not have dates on them so I won't be able to tell you when it was published when I find it. That's the only printed text I know of that mentions the transition, and you are right - there should be a section in the forum for discussing these matters and keeping everyone up to date. A little information every once in a while goes a long ways. I can understand the frustration of being a MC member who does not live in Southern California. OldManx actually suggested starting an Orange County chapter years ago, but he was shot down. I think everyone agrees that having regional chapters would be the way to go, but once again, there simply isn't a sufficient forum in which to discuss these matters. In other words, when the 'new regime' takes over, we will need to make sure they keep the communication open. "I think the officers will have a tough and under appreciated job." This is possible, but I have found that if you allow the people to have a say and get them involved in decisions, they will step up and take a lot of the responsibility away. It's like having a government OF the people FOR the people. I'm not saying that running a car club is an easy task, but it would be in the best interest of the new officers to at least start out on the right foot. As you can see from the comments in this thread, they have their work cut out for them!
CairoManx, I, for one, appreciate the short, basic update on what is (or has been) going on, but my questions are these: Why am I just now hearing about this transition? How long have the SoCal locals that attend meetings known about this? (and again) Why is there not a secured place on OUR website to keep the OVERALL membership clued in on the nature and ongoing details of this transition?
Gary, The way the club is set up now is that Bruce and Winnie literally and legally own it and make the decisions. Personally, I'd love to see it stay that way forever, but that's not gonna be. I don't believe Bruce and Winnie are planning on making any additions like you describe to the webpage prior to turning it over to the membership. I think a couple newsletters back Winnie said she was looking for help. She's let the folks that came forward know that she and Bruce want to turn over the club to the members. They've put together a draft club charter, which if Bruce and Winnie approve, will change the club into a fully democratic(or republican) organization. Until that happens, its still Bruce and Winnie's club.

Uh, I would hope that some "tip of the hat" to Robert's Rules would be in effect and a change (or better yet) adoption of the initial constitution would probably be up to a vote of the membership with simple majority requirements for action to take place. This will certainly be an interesting process to watch, provided some measure of transparency will be evident in the near future. The new officers can retain all, part or none of the constitution as they see fit.
Does anyone know whether any of the "volunteers" and/or Winnie is monitoring this thread? I think there has been a lot of valuable input in how to get off to a good start and gain buy-in with the rank-and-file regarding the new Manx Club. If there is any doubt as to the interest by the members, take a look at the number of views this thread has so far. Bud

I have always thought that it would be great to regionalize the club but have this website as the commom thread that ties it all together. I would love to come to one site and be able to see what is going on everywhere else I think it would really open up the club. I have met many people nation wide and my is goal try to attend events across the country/world . I have enjoyed how and why buggy's are built for the different applications nation wide. We all have this common passion and when we all come together to share stories it what is all about for me. So to be able to share those stories and adventures at a central location would be great. As it is right now, I do not see many stories or pictures after events on this site. Gene C #729
I've seen what I think are numerous good ideas presented in this thread. To paraphrase some of them: -Reopen the board to non-members -A members only section of the board for club business and to keep communication open...transparency -Regional/Local chapters -Regalia type stuff available again in a club store front; stickers, badges, emblems, key chains, T-shirts -Have webpage generate income from advertising -Have MC website as a central location to see what is going on in other geographic areas -Make Manx website more user friendly I believe we'll be electing officers in the near future. I think this is the kind of input they need.

We have a few strong members here that can give updates on the mid-atlantic area. Or for that matter whatever needs to be done.
I said it before and I'll say it again; I hope that those in the decision making postions read and heed some (if not all) of these ideas. It's been a very long time that I can remember a thread generating as much interest and excitement as this one has. Please, please listen out there! I think the opportunity is great to bring the buggy family back to this club. Bud (with my fingers and toes crossed)

If there is a west coast contingent of members that have stepped forward to offer their assistance in the club?s "transition, their lack of input to this thread is troublesome, to say the least. I personally do not expect to be given details to the master plan; I would imagine that the outline for the club?s future is still in the "brainstorming" phase according to some of the responses to this thread. If this contingent does truly exist, is there at least one member who will step forward and give the rest of us a heads-up as to what is going on? I, for one, would greatly appreciate it. It will be interesting to see if the future of this club does involve more of a regional aspect. Note to webmaster: the Buggy of the Month for August voting ended up in a tie between #1 Tim Bogan and #3 John Butterworth. Is there anybody out there, or has this website just been running on autopilot for the last few months?
