What's up with this website?

Post by Gene-C »

Hi, I am curious as to what seems to have happened to the activity on this website. Is it just me, or have others noticed the drop-off of the interaction on the forums? Also, on another note, I was doing a quick search for one of the threads I had started, and I discovered that it has disappeared completely, along with one more I started ("Odyssey battery - Berrien chassis" and "Manx Club Rollbar"). I dropped an email to the webmaster and his response was "sorry, there were server issues (?), you can repost if you want......" Have any of you other guys noticed missing threads as well? I have only been a Manx Club member for 2 years, and this website was extremely valuable in helping me in my dune buggy build. I used to check this site every evening to read information that may (or may not) relate to my ride, but now it's almost become an afterthought. Any opinions on my observations?

Nope, nothing in the archives either...........and it looks like there are articles that are dated before I even became a member. Also, it's now October 26th, is there a reason that the results for Buggy of the Month have not been finalized and posted for August?
Hi, I am curious as to what seems to have happened to the activity on this website. Is it just me, or have others noticed the drop-off of the interaction on the forums?
Gary, I've noticed the same thing. Unfortunately the lack of "chatter" has made me join another site's forum just to stay current with buggy talk :( I still go to the club forum first to see what's going on and to post questions. Unfortunately, the traffic on the forum isn't what it used to be. I think it goes back to the decision to make sure only paid club members had access. It's a shame that 30 bucks a year has run some folks off. Bud

Bill, I wish you'd share any concerns you have on the forum. As far as I know the new regime will be whoever the Manx Club membership elects. Winnie asked for help to get things started and a couple people stepped up, but she's still in charge. I believe they're helping her put together a general framework/constitution of a club organization(heavily borrowed from other national car clubs) so when we elect someone, we and they will have some idea of their duties. Again, the first order of business will be to elect officers. The new officers can retain all, part or none of the constitution as they see fit.

I know very little about computers ,etc and nothing about what it costs to maintain a web site, or how much money it generates in sales, or how interested the Meyers are in selling parts. But for the people like me that will likely never attend a club event, perhaps a cheaper level of club status with forum access? If I did manage the 1,000 mile drive and $1,000 in gasoline to get to an event, upgrading to full member status for an extra $50 would not be an issue. Or pehaps a public page on the site??? Sell some ad space? The more input the better when problem solving comes to play. Even the village idiot has his day.

Web Site

The reason I do not post very much on this web site as you are limited to 4 photos and the mechanics of posting, changing fonts, sizes and colors, gets very frustrating @ times. "ONCE BIT, TWICE SHY" So I will make a referral to another site when appropiate. :2cents:

Okay, let?s see a show of hands??????.how many of you think that the disappearance of the last 4 pages of this thread was accidental? Is the webmaster going to blame it on "database issues" again, like he did in his email response to my question awhile back about some of my missing threads? If my memory serves me right, there were 55 replies listed on this particular thread earlier this afternoon. Is this what we can expect in the future? I, for one, think this forum has turned into an absolute joke.

What's up with this website

Post by Gene-C »

Gary, In an effort to make some sort of sense of order to hijacked, rambling thread a attempt has been made to sort it all out into several relevant threads. Various portions have been moved into one of three threads. No posts involved in the original thread have been deleted. The threads are: 1. General Discussion/What's up with this website 2. General Discussion/Manx Club Items 3. General Discussion/Manx Club Store

Hi Joe, I am sure you had the best of intentions, but now this particular thread is totally chopped up, and it includes responses to posts that have (apparently) been moved to other threads. What good is that, is that supposed to be an improvement? I originally started this thread based on my concerns about the lack of forum activity and missing thread information. The thread evolved into a more broad discussion on the nature and direction of the club itself. I personally did not have a problem with that. I don?t remember any posts that seem to hijack the thread; to me they were all expanded ideas on the subject. Now, this thread has lost it?s continuity. From the number of "Views" listed, it seemed that there were quite a few that were following the flow of the thread. Can?t you just put it back to the way it was?

Gary, Thanks for the comments. Before moving the various parts over 65% of the replies were various rants & statements about rumor of new Manx Club administration. The split of the items on the forum appears to be permanent. We all need to keep in mind that it is necessary to limit the discussion to the topic heading. Otherwise a thread turns into total chaos.

"Rant"?????..interesting choice of words there, Joe. That?s a pretty bold statement, considering the definition. Could you please point out to me which particular posts that were currently under this thread fit in that category? As I read them, they impressed me as being polite, but questioning the (rumored) changes of OUR club. Since you are an officially-designated moderator for our website, there is a chance that you are in-the-know. Do you know why the Buggy of the Month has not been updated for August? Do you know what in the heck is going on behind the scenes during this (rumored) transition, if anything? Informed information would be greatly appreciated.
Gary, In an effort to make some sort of sense of order to hijacked, rambling thread I have censored it. Because anything you say against the Manxclub doesn't belong on my site.
thank you for clearing that up. Now I remember why I only check here as an afterthought.

Thanks Joe ... after reading to other threads I think you added clarity. The organization of the posts kept them all in context and alignment. This must of removed some of the confusion folks were having ... it did for me. Thanks for being a moderator. Mark
