Old Hot VW's mags Wanted

Post by mel hubbard »

Wanted, March 1977 Dune Buggies & Hot VW's mag,,, has an article on the Veep (hope thats the issue) by Tom Chambers. Any other Veep articles or paperwork would also be of interest to me. A real long shot here, but could use some original beam clamps for a Veep, if anyone knows of any for sale. Also wanted by my buddy in UK, a copy of Hot VW's with ''Manxed Out'' on the front cover,, think its from the late 80's.

Nelson, Bob (on here) emaild it too me,, think he scaned it from an ebay add, the quality of print is not too good and I cant quite make out some of the text & pics. Bob if your reading this, I am very grateful for your help with that,, without your mail I would never had known that article ever existed. The reason for me wanting more information & pics is someone in UK has chopped and messed around with the front end of the chassis on my one,, it was also made RHD which does not work on this type of vehicle. So Im also interested in finding out how they did the pedals & if they used a VW sedan pedal set up,,, cant quite make that out in the pics Bob mailed. I would appreciate it if you could scan it & email it or even post it on here would be fine,,,, but I would be willing to pay a good price for a mag copy if one ever comes up. Latest on the project,,, its all stripped down to a bare chassis,, body is at the shot-blasters,, just hope some metal comes back.

Mel, I think you should have the scan now. They definitely used VW pedals. I didn't realize it until I read the article but the Veep producer was Paul Hadley who made the Transvair adapters. I had a Transvair Towd once and visited his shop in about 1976. Thinking back, he had quit making Transvairs but I think there were Veeps there then. I wonder if Paul Hadley is still around. I also noticed the Armstong Norsemans on your Veep are the same as on the magazine Veep.

Nelson, got it OK but its the same as Bobs and I cant quite make out some of the pics & text  Do you think it would post on here better?? Im no computer guy but been doing a lot of research into the Veeps, and yes, I only found out only this week that Paul Hadley (the Veep guy) also did the Transvair Adapters.

Mel, I sent it to you as a zip file. You should have gotten a file with 4 thumbnails. You should be able to double click on each thumnail and a larger than life scanned image will open. The photographs are kinda fuzzy in the magazine article but if you've successfully opened the images, all the text should be huge. You may not have the software to open each full image. If you still can't open them, let me know. The images on the Manx Club forum are required to be pretty small.

Mel, I was recently given a box of old VW mags. I'm not sure if I have any going that far back but you are certainly welcome to the entire issue if I have it. I'll let you know in a bit. Tom

If the postage is too high to the UK, I'm going over there in August and could hand carry it to Mel when I see him. I'm in Santa Barbara, CA 93111. Let me know and I'll send Tom my mailing address.
If you don't mid me asking... What's your buddy's interest in this particular issue?
My buddy Richard Brown (from Scotland) has been trying to get hold of this mag for a while now,, he's been building a full tube framed buggy himself. I asked him this same question when I saw his wanted ad on a UK forum,, his reply was ''to gain further inspiration in order to get his one finished'' :help: Richie is a great guy but he does keep changing the projects he starts,, we go back a long way & he seems to be getting worse with age  Dave Jones,, if your looking,, maybe you could post up a pic of Richies project for Tom,,, he bought his body kit the same time as his buddy Gordon bought his flake gold drag racer buggy shell,,,, as far as I know its Gordons second season on the strip, while poor ol Richies gathers dust in the shop.
