Breather Questions, Help

Post by L0084MC »

I have a breather kit to put in the valve covers. #1-Where is the best place to put the holes in the covers so they will be out of the way and not interfere with anything else. #2-What is the routing for the hose. (from where to where and what to what) I have a aluninum filler tube with one fitting coming off of it for a breather hose. I have a set of duel 34 ict webers on the engine and it has a small hose that connects the carbs at the base of the carbs. I think I read that it is best to run the hose to the carb filter, if that is so, #3-How is that done. I'M Lost.

I postioned mine on the forward or front facing surface of the valve cover towards the top, centered. There are reasons for this as oil will tend to congregate at the back bottom of the cover under acceleration. (opposite side) I drilled with a good metal step bit to as close to the exact size of the bung. I also used some rubber gaskets and the copper washers. No leaks or mess yet. From there I ran those tubes up to a Bugpack breather box above my fan housing on the rear bulkhead. I also ran my oil fill breather hose to the third fitting on the box. As far as I could tell, there are differing opinions on the venting to a carb. I will let someone else explain that as you can fill a book and it appears as if the concenus is 50/50. It makes sense to me not put put additional oil mist through a carb but some say the additional vacuum is all good.

As far as I'm concerned, Dave said it right! Here's a pic of what I did. Image No connection to the carbs. Clear plastic hose so you can see if it gets clogged up (hose from Lowes, but any good hardware store should have something right).

Allen, I have basically the same setup on my Manx and it works fine with one problem. There are times when driving down the road, I can smell the oil vapor coming out of the filter on the top of the breather box. I plan on trying to relocate the breather filter a little further under the body in an effort to keep the vapor from making it to the drivers seat of the buggy.

Thanks guys. After you see the picture it only makes sense. I have the valve covers done but I like siggy manx #33 breather box. mine is square and mounts on the back of the buggy with four inlets to it. a couple of questions. how much space between the box and the fan housing. I have cross bar linkage that comes out about 1-3/4" and I was wandering if it would clear it. And siggy Manx #33 I noticed that you have one in the classified section. Do you still have it?

I do still have it. Brand new and I can save you a few bucks. It really wasn't too expensive to begin with.
