Website performance
Has anyone notice that the forum section of the website has be real slow the last 3 or 4 days? I use a home and work computer and it seems that way. No matter what computer I am on things have been real slow? (work has a straight T-1 servicing 2 desktops) Also has anyone notice the stream of odd names that have been registering on a semi constant basis over the last few days? Or am I crazy?
Weird Happenings
Yes, I'm also having a lot of trouble, when I first come on. Twice I got booted off the website, saying no connection, etc. There might be some outside hacker having fun?? Still it's real hard and time consuming to visit this site, probably will give it some room to improve, be fore I try anymore. It has taken me about 20 minutes to log on, click on this thread and respond.
Also has anyone notice the stream of odd names that have been registering on a semi constant basis over the last few days?
Yes Dave,,,,,,, I have noticed that too,, maybe the Martians have finally landed & decided to join up
Hope its not the remaining Committee or we could have pronunciation problems here
Odd User Names
You guys are not seeing things. This item was referred to the webmaster a couple of days ago. He is on a work break and assured me that it will be addressed upon his return. I think he has a good idea of where these are coming from. Speaking for the webmaster, Thanks for bringing this problem up. There is one item that we can each do to help the webmaster weed out the unwanted names on the member list. In the past he has asked each of us to include our club membership number in our forum profile. Doing this allows him to see instantly if each of us is a paid up member. If your profile does not contain your member number you risk having you access being removed.
Dave, Same here with the speed (or lack there of). I thought it was just me. It has been painful. I didn't notice the new members, but I don't usually look. I will now

My computer knowledge is very limited. I don't know how to post my number and a lot of other functions that need to be done sometimes. "If your profile does not contain your member number you risk having you access being removed." Before the webmaster removes a member he should do some checking. I'm would bet that the answer to membership is only a phone call or email away. IF I am removed because of something that is so simple to check on before removel, Well lets say, I would not be happy about it. Sorry, But that is the way I feel. I was not raised in a high tech world and sometimes I think it is passing me by.

In other words, ask someone to help you remedy the situation.

Here is how you add/edit your signature. 1) Top left-handside of the page; click on "User CP" 2) Left-side of the page top; Under Control Panel, under Settings & Options, select/click on "Edit Signature". 3) You'll get a window that looks just like the window you type messages in. Add whatever you want your signature block to look like (use mine as an example if you want). This is where we (members) were asked to put our membership number. 4) Select "save" at the bottom of the window. 5) That's it. Every message or PM that you create will now have your signature block added. Hope this helps. Bud

NEWMANX59 I am not cursing the darkness, I re-read my post very carefully and don't see where I cursed anything or anyone. Just stated a fact. When I joined the Manx Club, I did not see anything that stated it was a requirement to post your membership number or be deleted from the club. You have made it very obvious that I am not as smart as you are. But, that don't make me feel bad because It's my guess that not many people on here are. Thank you for your advise, I will consider it.
Member Numbers
"When I joined the Manx Club, I did not see anything that stated it was a requirement to post your membership number or be deleted from the club." The usage of a member number is not a requirement!!!! Several years ago when there were far fewer registered users on the site the administrator was having a difficult time in keeping up with who is who here. for example is the member named Seymore Benson, in real life, known as manxter 18, manxter10, manxter01 on the virtual side of the web site. It is a way for the site administrator to know almost instantly if you are a paying member. Most of us desire that we use a name other than the on given us by our parents. The membership records that are provided to the administrator are formated by given name and member number. The website member list is formated by userid. Using the member number in the signature field make verification a simple task. It is a simple concept. A user types in their member number, and the administrator then knows if they are a real member. Nothing hi-tech. Mostly simple courtesy. It is amazing what happens when a person asks "I don't know how to do xyz", or "How can I do ABC". I truely believe that the average member is just waiting for a chance to help out another member. It dosen't make any difference if it is a vehicle problem on a run or a simple process on the web site.
I grant what you are saying is true and that is a large part of the reason I joined this club, Everyones willingness to help. I am the only one responsible for my shortcomings. Sometimes a person might be a little embarrrassed to let the world Know that he is not the brightest light on the tree. As I recall Newmanx59 did not offer to help. It was Madmanx that offered a helping hand. (Thank you Madmanx) The only thing Newmanx59 had to offer was an arrogant statement. I don't Know Newmanx59 and to my knowledge I have never spoke to him. I would never try to insult or rundown someone I don't know, and only then with just cause. I took offence to his insinuation of stupidity and still do. Being stupid all depends on where you are standing when the question is ask. Let him come into my world and I will ask the questions. Then we can tell more about who is stupid. Not having Knowledge of a subject does not make one stupid. Being arrogant, self centered and detrimental to others does.

Ok, now let us get back to the real issue. Bud, thank you for the quick lesson on how to modify your profle information. For the members that need to review follow these instructions: "Here is how you add/edit your signature. 1) Top left-handside of the page; click on "User CP" 2) Left-side of the page top; Under Control Panel, under Settings & Options, select/click on "Edit Signature". 3) You'll get a window that looks just like the window you type messages in. This is where we (members) were asked to put our membership number. 4) Select "save" at the bottom of the window. 5) That's it. Every message or PM that you create will now have your signature block added." Please help out the administrator and get your profile changed ASAP. Yesterday I made the following post: "You guys are not seeing things. If your profile does not contain your member number you risk having you access being removed." The administrator has been made aware of the problem. There is nothing more that we can do until he gets everything sorted out. I am going to put the lock on this thread until such time as when the administrator has solved the problem or when he decides that more information is required form the members. A final reminder: "If your profile does not contain your member number you risk having you access being removed."
