Yes, as a matter of fact. But not on a VW. It happend on my Jeep CJ. I didn't quite make it to the top of the dune in 1st gear, so I pushed in the clutch and let the Jeep roll down the dune backward. Halfway down I heard a boom followed by grinding sounds. To make a long story short, rolling backward, clutch in and trans in 1st gear really over revs the clutch disc and it just threw it apart. What's your story!

That is an exellent question.........I bought a 79 bus just for the transaxle, my 17 year old nephew needed a senior project and something to drive so I told him to take the efi off the bus and see how it ran with Webers. Turns out it ran a little too well. I told him all I wanted was the trans and to try to take it easy on it, he could mash into stuff all he wanted, just don't hurt the trans..He drove the stinkin thing like it was a Porche. I rode with him to the DMV and it scared the crap out of me. Probably my fault, he learned to drive a stick in my buggy out in the dunes. I may never get the real story, but I think he had the tires spinning on an icy lawn and sidesteped the clutch into second the same time he hit the dry pavement.??????Now he knows how to change a clutch. It sucked too. Way easier in a buggy.
