how much is in you toy
I never added up the receipts for my buggy, but it must have been somewhere near $10,000. I sold it for $5,000. I have a shoe box on my desk with the receipts so far for the SR. I have not added them up and I probably won't, but the engine alone will cost about $4,000. The project started at $5,000, just to buy and get the body here from California. It's been rolling along like a jugganaut ever since then. I expect it will be nearly $20,000 when it's finished.
This is the start of my 3 litre turbo, EFI engine that's going in my Siggy Manx and believe me I can buy a nice engine for what I have in the parts on the table already. I don't think I will ever add up the total cost.

Manx Build Cost
Less than $3000.00 & I've been driving it for almost 5 1/2 years & a little over 50,000 "trouble-free" miles. As hard as I've driven it on & off road, it's probably equal to 150,000 miles!
It's ALL Fun, Fun, Fun... ManxManiac
Yea, I bet just in regular, not stainless, bolts, I have 150-200 bucks in it. My bad move was building this thing without a donor bug. It cost me way moer in the long run, but everything is new now. Just the small stuff will eat you up. Who would of thought of 125.00 in hole saws???? Or 300 to wire the car? ETC,ETC..$$$$$
I was in the same boat.. I had nothing to reuse just a pan and busted up body. I know how to glass now. I didn't even add in the cost of all the tools and misc. stuff like plastic thinner sand paper resin and glass. i bet that is another 300 . and hole saws! i forgot about them... I burned up my compressor using ma sand blaster (new) to clean up the pan. ok its is not a contest but just a way for people to think how much you can spend doing this. welders... etc....
Wow,,,,,there are some high priced buggys on here. Mine is a clone and the body and pan was given to me by a neighbor. Now the sad thing is I already have a 69 VW convert. and 55 Ford F100 torn down in my shop and I have put this buggy project ahead of them. My body is in rough shape but I think the experience with doing the body work I will learn a few things that will help in building my 69 & 55. Plus,,,,,,I am not in a hurry. I am in the military and if I could just stay home long enough to get to work on my projects. I keep telling my wife I will get old one day and will have the time.......just hoping not too old to enjoy driving them.:driving:
