I think it would be hard to find a place to put the air tanks and air compressors especially since the rear bags and control arms take up about all the hiding spaces under the rear seat. I'm not a big fan of the cambered rear wheels on lowered Bugs either.

Iv'e ridden in quite a few street rods with bags and thay all ride great. I would imagine the VW would ride great as well. Jerry...
weight

Well with less weight than a bug i didn't know if it would still give a good ride.

Less weight = less air in the bag. Less air should compensate for the lack of weight. I think?

You know what i wonder about. the airbags i can understand nice ride and all. but what about the fronts using air shocks, i would think that would be less forgiving. I don't know, just wondering out loud.

Have you considered using a fox stile shock with nitrogen as the spring or torsion replacement?

No i am looking for a smooth street ride. there is no place to off road around here unless you travel. i have built a couple of planes and you were weather dependent. i want something i can jump into in a moments notice and enjoy. so i remember my brothers buggy from the 70's and it was stiff and bumpy that is why i like this site there are alway's idea's to choose from to do different things.

Should be a good ride, you can valve the dampening and adjust the nitrogen pressure for your spring rate. If anything it would be too soft on the street without a coilover .
