California AB 1613 and Mandatory OHV Safety Courses

Post by 5150bossman »

AB 1613. An FYI of what's on the horizon for the California OHV community pending the governors approval. This will include all street legal vehicles operated off-road:

In California, AB 1613 is a developing legislative bill concerning Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) safety. It introduces a statewide mandate requiring anyone 16 and older who operates an OHV to complete a safety course and carry a stewardship operator card. [1, 2]

Key provisions of the bill:
Mandatory Training: Requires operators to pass the California Off-Highway Vehicle Safety and Stewardship Course.

Timeline: The mandatory card requirement is slated to take effect on July 1, 2029.

Fees: Establishes an initial course fee of $25, which will be deposited into the Off-Highway Vehicle Trust Fund.

Penalties: Operating without a card will result in an infraction, requiring course completion and a fine of $100, $250, or $500. [1, 2]
