How are you guys dealing with the wire for the horn button? I have a grent wheel and I really want to have the horn button in the center of it, but once I got it all hoooked up I realized the wire was going to wind all around the steering column whenever I turn. Is there anything I can do outside of not putting the horn button there or just leaving enough slack so it can wind around (which looks sloppy when it's just hanging there).

My horn wire runs down the middle of the column like most VW's.

I went to the junk yard and took the copper horn commentator ring off an old car and mounted it on the steering shaft of the buggy. It has a little spring loaded piston that mounts on the frame that makes contact with the copper ring whereever it turns. It took a little shade tree engineering to mount it all. Once in a while I need to clean the contact surfaces because dust can build up and interfere or squeak. But it has worked fairly well for about six years.

Hello, Like MojaveMel, I took the little Spring loaded piston doo-dah from an old car, and then cut a small disc of aluminum. Using nylon washers, nuts and bolts, I mounted the disc so it is insulated from the column. The wire from the horn button goes to the piston doo-dah thing, and then another wire goes from the disc through the horns to power. When you push the horn button, you complete the circuit to ground, and it should honk. Pictures would be easier, but I don't have any right now. I may be able to get some in a while, as I need to pull the buggy apart for repairs. If you need pix, let me know. I'll Email you some. Good luck,
