Hello everyone, A few of us here on the coast of southeastern NC are curious to see how many dune buggies may actually be located in our area. A Dune Buggy Cruise-In is scheduled for Thursday, June 28th, 6pm until??(weather permitting), at the Sonic Drive-In on Market St. (near the Carmike Cinemas), in Wilmington, NC.

"weather permitting"? do they melt in the rain or something? LOL nice to see more and more action on the east coast. we're getting something together for the outer banks on july 7th as well. don't know how far that is from you. the surf dog grill in kitty hawk and then out onto the beach at oregon inlet or hatteras, whichever.

Mike, Hey man, I am sure you know that here one the east coast, when it rains, IT POURS! It's the time of year for that around here, that's for sure. I met a few dune buggy owners here in the area during my build process, but I made them wait until I got mine finished to plan something like this. Driving on the beach at the outer banks is nice; years ago I would take my 4Runner out there are drive for miles. How often do you get down this way? If this first cruise-in amounts to anything, we may plan something on a wider scope. I guess time will tell.

once a year for the last few years now. don't see that changing now that we found out about the place! but we go for two weeks so we have some quality time. i hear you. we are doing one up this way. got a lot of interest and people from several states. hopefully everyone will be able to make it and the weather will be nice. maybe something down in Va or so to split the difference in the future. just need someone who knows the area so we're not going in blind , thats all.that'd be cool.

Hi Bud, It's hard to tell, actually; I am hoping that even if just a few buggies show up, it may be a good starting point for things like this in the future. I like the drive from Jacksonville to Wilmington anyway, no matter what happens. There are several members listed in the Manx Club roster that live in the Raleigh/Durham/Greensboro/Winston-Salem area, it would be great if we could find a way to plan something on a wide scope in the future, maybe on a weekend.

[font=Microsoft Sans Serif]Gary, I hope you don't mind me sharing our recent experience with a local (unnamed) cruising club. [font=Microsoft Sans Serif] [font=Microsoft Sans Serif]In conjunction with trying to start a "buggy" cruise-in gathering in our area, my buggy-buddy Gary contacted a local "Cruisers" club (large membership, charitable events, weekly cruise-in's, etc) to see if they would allow us to join their club. We were invited to attend their weekly dinner get-together for a meet-and-greet. The members introduced themselves and described the hot rods they owned. Then it was our turn for introductions and "car" descriptions. That's when the fun started. When hearing that we had fiberglass dune buggys, there was at least one member who looked like they just served him dog poo poo on his plate. No big deal, we thought. After the meeting was over Gary invited them out to look at my buggy (it was the only one there that night) in the parking lot. Only two people bothered to even stroll over in our direction (the person that invited us to the meeting and one other member). A quick fly-by was done and the inspection was over. A few days later Gary received a call from the person that invited us to attend. He was told that news of our interest in joining their club went through their club like a wild fire. The general feeling of the membership was that we didn't meet the criteria/intent of their club and their bi-laws (and we thought they were all about cruising and fellowship). Therefore, the welcome mat was not out for any "buggy people". Needless to say, we got a good laugh out of the whole thing.
