My new gas tank
One of my customers made this for me a as a gift and boy what a gift
I took it home and put on a sump, mounting tabs, sending unit, filler neck
and roll over breather valve
Dennis gave me the breather that was designed for the top of the tank
I tapped the 2 holes for 1/8 pipe and made a mount to make it a remote
Came out pretty clean I think

My old was was 16 gallons and I made this one 2 inches taller
Haven't done the math yet or been to the station yet to fill it
so somewhere 18-20 is my guess

I guess this is nice, Gene, if you like going some 600 miles without stopping for gas.  I, however, much prefer sweating out that last mile of a 100 mile run wondering if I'll make it back to camp:-D

Just kidding, superior work as always Gene.  It really looks nice and fits the space perfectly.  Just one more thing for me to be jealous about!

Gene,

Does a full tank put you over two tons?

Have fun.

Hey now
Gadget has been on a diet for sometime now
heck "free"is cool and replacing my steel tank with aluminum
so adding a couple gallons of gas is nothing
The best thing is no more stick for a fuel gauge
My tank switch allows for  two tanks so nice when I switch tanks the fuel guage switches too
I'm stoked

Scott - don't forget that when you run out of gas, Gene will be there with his "portable gas station" to "sell" you some for a "discount price", which can vary depending on how far you are in the boonies.   LOL  Tom

Oh boy, I can imagine how much THAT would cost.  I once ran out of gas in Borrego, and Pete, aka Pedro, was kind enough to give me enough of his to make it to a station,  But, heck, that was years ago and I STILL hear about it. I'd much rather just hand him a ton of cash with the agreement that we would forget it ever happened! :-)

Off road pricing for parts and fuel is a mathmatical formula as we alll know
I have always packed Gadget like a service truck so if we are in need we have a better chance of getting back to camp
However Scott you do bring up a good point
Is it worthwhile to pay the premium for the part or
get it for free/ replacement value and have to listen to the  story again and again

I personally like telling the story becuase it gets better with each telling.
I too have had Gadget on the end of a tow strap and it makes the story that much better I think
But for me the breakdowns and the off road repair is the story
Heck I spent years reading Bruce's Baja stories
