I am running a spun alu. tank in the back seat above the engine. I have just a single 34pict-3 carb. Do I really need a fuel pump. wouldn't it gravity feed just as well? If anyone has tried this let me know. Am I just asking for trouble? The only concern I have is would it filter through a fuel filter ok. thanks for the input. Jeremy Chattanooga, TN

Yes, you need about 3 psi of positive fuel pressure. MURZ

It should work fine as long as the needle valve in the carb doesn't leak and allow the fuel tank to empty into the crankcase overnight. I would suggest a fuel shut off valve that you use religiously.

But what happens when you want to go up a hill?

Best to just put the fuel pump on. That way you are ready for any situation, not just flat level driving.

i think the correct answer is no you don't NEED a fuel pump but it is a extremely good idea to run one. I would also personaly sugest an electric one. But one of the great things about a tank mounted in the back seat. If your pump goes out you just re-route the lines to gravity feed and gimp your way home.
