Junk Carb?

I have a H30/31 carb that I think is an aftermarket carb, I cannot get gas from the bowl to the accelerator pump, I have soaked the body and rebuilt the carb but it still seems plugged, when you remove the pump and blow air thru the small upper hole it exits thru the nozzle in the carb but the second hole seems to be connected to the bowl and I see a brass tube in the bottom of the bowl directly above the plugged hole (behind the acc pump), is there some sort of check valve here? Is this carb even worth fooling with?
Thanks
Chuck

Yes there is a check ball in the float bowl under the brass plug. If you have the stock VW tail lights using one of the lens screws works to remove the the plug. Just tighten the screw into the plug and use a set of pliers, I use side cutters ($!%*$) to lever against the top of the carb to remove plug.

The carb will work, just needs to be adjusted properly.

In my opinion the original 30 PICT round bowl carb was the simplest of all the 30 PICT series carbs to work on. Finding one that the throttle shaft bores are not worn is hard. Bushings can be installed to fix the wear.

You are the man!, I didn't have a taillight screw but got one that did work and the plug came out with little prying. I removed the small ball bearing, cleaned and reassembled the carb primed it and the car fired right up. Thank you again for helping me over a hurdle. The people on this site are awesome
