Transaxle change - '63 to '67

I picked up a complete '67 transaxle to replace my '63; to get a little more 4th w/less rpm & full synchro. Question(s):
  • are axle backing plates the same for both? (reason, right-side of '67 bent, need to replace)
  • are rebuild parts same for both? (including brakes)
Thanks, Bill

Backing plates are the same as the 63. Uses same brake shoes (narrow). Axles and axle tubes are longer, but use the same drum, wide 5 lug. Transaxle bell housing is machined for 12volt flywheel, has smaller starter bushing for 12v starter. If still using 6v starter adapter busing is avialable. You may have to use longer steel brake line from flex hose to wheel cylinder.

Thank you. Assume wheel cylinders are the same too? How about emergency brake cable, will the '63-based reach the longer axle/tubes?
