Announcing The Next Manx Club Initiative

As the Manx Club (MC) continues to grow in membership numbers the MC Board of Directors (BOD) are looking at ways to leverage existing technology to enhance and supplement communications with the membership. Members are asked for their email addresses on their membership application and most have provided one. In the near future we are going to start sending out occasional informational emails using our existing email list. Each email will contain a link to “opt out” of future email notifications and/or to update your existing email contact information. The BOD has no intention at this time to discontinue the use of the U.S. Postal Service for important club information or communications such as BOD nomination flyers, BOD election ballots, club event flyers, raffle entry forms, the Manx Mania, membership renewal notices, etc. In the future, if email communication proves to be a viable option for distributing club information, you may choose to “opt out” of some paper mailings (which would result in a significant cost savings to the club). If you are aware that your contact information is invalid or needs updating and/or you would like to add an email address to your membership information, please send an email to

Mark, No it is nothing new, you are a Life member so I don't think you want a renewal notice.

Per the Manx Club By-Laws, all members who serve a term as Manx Club President receive an honorary life time membership.
This honorary membership is bestowed on a past president after the board of directors approves the award. It is a class of membership that cannot be purchased.
This privilege and other things have been in the Manx Club By-Laws since the Manx Club was incorporated about 6 years ago.
As of January 01, 2014 there are only 4 life memberships on the membership roster:
Bruce Lightner #0300, awarded by Bruce & Winnie Meyers, prior to the incorporation of the Manx Club
Bruce & Winnie Meyers #0000 Awarded by the board of directors shortly after the incorporation for their work in establishing the Manx Club
Mark & Carol Bryant #1856, Awarded by the board of directors, in recognition of his term as President
Scott Drolet #0047, Awarded in recognition of his 1st term as President
Any active member may read the By-Laws at

We've just completed our first set of email correspondences to those active members and inactive members (inactive members received a one-time emailer) who have provided a valid email address. Those active members that took the time to provide feedback responded very favorably to receiving this addition communication from the Manx Club. We will continue to use email (for our active members with a valid email address) going forward. If you are an active MC member and would like to be put on the email list please send your information (Name, member number, and valid email address) to
updateinfo@manxclub.com.
Lastly, as stated above there is no intention to discontinue the use of the U.S. Postal System for distributing important club information.
Thanks.

If you are an active club member and have provided us with a valid email address then you received the following notice. If you are an active member and did not receive this notice if means we do not have a valid email address (or any at all) for you. If you would like to receive notices in the future (and are an active member) please provide your updated email information to
updateinfo@manxclub.com. Include your name and membership number.
Here is the notice:
As the Manx Club Board of Directors (MC BODs) continue to strive for improvements in the club and for its members, one of the actions that we have recently completed was an unscientific survey of the members and non-members requesting feedback and improvement ideas. The highest ranking item that seemed to be a common dissatisfyer with the membership and potential members is the lack of “ease-of-use” of the club forum (i.e. the YUKU platform). The feedback also indicated that there is a strong desire to open the club forum up to all dune buggy enthusiasts regardless of membership status.
The MC BODs are pleased and excited to announce that we have collectively agreed with the feedback regarding the forum and have begun the process of moving the MC forum to a full-featured bulletin board (forum) platform. All of the current content from the YUKU-based forum will be migrated to this new platform. In addition to the current YUKU content, we have been able to locate and will be migrating the historical data (from ~2005-2010) that has been missing since the club moved to YUKU. One of the biggest changes, when the move and data migration is complete, is that the new MC forum will be open to members and non-members alike. We believe that the MC offers unique and specific subject matter expertise related to the dune buggy hobby and should be the centralized clearing house for all hobbyist. The new MC forum will provide for easier posting, replying, and most importantly the uploading and sharing of pictures!
We are anticipating the roll out of the new MC forum within the next 30-45 days, depending on the success of the data migration efforts and clean up. We will provide additional information and updates at appropriate and relevant times.
Thank you to those who were willing to share their opinions and suggestions on how to improve the MC for everyone.

All the non-profit groups for whom I produce newsletters have gone digital—except the Manx Club. And what a bargain Manx Club members are getting! The cost for just printing the current issue was $2.35 per copy, plus the cost of the 9x12” printed mailing envelope, plus labeling and stuffing cost, plus postage. The current rate for postage to countries outside US and Canada is about $4.95 an issue. Multiply all this by four issues a year and the club spends over $29.80 annually just to send the Mania to each member in Australia, England, France, etc. Members in foreign countries pay $30 a year in dues (the same as the rest of us). If the club is looking to cut expenses, going digital would be a very impactful place to start. However, so many of our members love, and collect the Manx Mania that I’m not sure how well received the idea would be. It might be interesting to see how many on our 900+ mailing list would be okay with receiving an online-only version of our newsletter.

It seems like we're talking about two issues ; 1. upgrading the the forum and 2. the possibility of receiving the club publication "Manx Mania" electronically via a pdf file or ..
1. I think the forum is ready for the upgrading...
2. However the Manx Mania should continue in its inked format.
From Anita Kornoff's post above it seem the big costs are with the off shore members, perhaps they would be willing to accept an electronic file or be willing to pay a surcharge for the additional postal charges ?
Our 2 cents,
MnC

Mark,
1. The migration of the Manx Club Forum is a work in progress. Look for some positive changes in the near future.
2. There is no item before the board of directors concerning the Manx Mania. At the present time
it is mailed to all members who have their dues up to the publish date of the Mania. It is also mailed to our vendor/sponsors, and all living life members. Additionally, it is available to all members with paid up dues on the internet. The "Mania" is the most expensive member benefit, after the various liability insurance policies that the Club has. Fortunately the BOD, and the various department chairs are always looking for a way to lower the delivery costs, and reduce the labor & expense of all member benefits.

Mark,
Do not feel bad. When it is displayed to me all the print is less than 1/1" in height.
I cannot wait for the new site.
