Hey All;
I have a bus swingaxle (non-syncromesh and reduction gears have been removed for the Dark-Side engine) in a blue buggy that is starting to pop out of 1st gear. Anyone know what causes this and if it can be fixed??? Is there a shaft that might be bent or a gear that is worn out??? Or do I just find another transaxle??? Thanks...

Re: Transaxle Popping Out of Gear
Your picture reminds me of the helicopter pilot calling back to base when the chopper wouldn't start..
"My copilot thinks it's because it isn't sitting level...
I think it has something to do with being 50' underwater."
Could the water be a factor with your shifter issues?

I've never heard of water being a problem, but now I'm wondering...

Gary, do you know if there is a "seal" where the shift shaft goes thru the nosecone??? I've seen many without one & deep water crossings, dust & sand manage to get inside of the nosecone & cause problems!!! However, it's probably time for a rebuild anyway!!!

Re: Transaxle Popping Out of Gear
some times on a transaxle that never had its oil changed ever has sludge buildup that causes it to pop out of gear but usually its fourth or reverse that acts up in a beetle trans. you may get lucky by flushing and changing the oil. water if inside could cause surface rust where you don't want it causing problems. poor shift rod bushings or coupler sometimes may cause, but it may be time for rebuild if high miles. every buggy project I took on had either the original factory oil or none at all, for some reason nobody changes the trans oil. with new oil its performance was very dramatic. good luck
