Actually, it's going into our bus, but the concept is the same.

I have never done a bus conversion. I would start here - https://smallcar.com/conversions/type-2 ... sions.html . Buy an engine from Outfront http://www.outfrontmotorsports.com/homepage.htm or get a local car. Get a transaxle from here - http://www.subarugears.com/ or http://ranchotransaxles.com/rancho-suba ... d-vanagon/ and a "black box" http://www.subarugears.com/subatronics/index.html if you decide to go with the original Subaru ECU.

With those parts in hand, the only fabrication you would have to do it the radiator and radiator mounts. A lot less than we had to do to convert the Manxter. Good luck! Tom

You can still use the Bus transaxle with an adaptor, but the gearing will be high for the Subaru engine. A money saver, but not the best way to use the engine. Tom

I have acquired a 2007 Impreza with a 2.5 and 5sp trans. I plan on putting them both into the bus.

That should be a great combination. You will need parts from Subaru Gears. Tom

If you need help modifying the transaxle housing from 4WD to 2WD, let me know and I can help with that. Tom

Do share your experiences please, RedBaron. I'd be very interested to find out how you did it and what your thoughts are.

I have a Bridgeport milling machine at my house. I have never modified a Suby transaxle case, but tell me where to cut it and I am sure I could do it. Tom
