I got a new deck lid cover from Bruce and I have run into a problem with the hinges where they mount on the body,Where you drill the 3 holes to install them,2 of the holes end up in the wiring tubes on the other side,I would really hate to have to cut the tubes open to put the nuts on,,Well rivet nuts work on fiber glass? or are they going to crack the glass and pull out ?

I think you're correct, I've only ever used them for sheet metal but can't imagine then gripping too well on 'glass. Something like this may work better, they mount with two pop rivets which do work well in glass fiber... http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p760/ ... _info.html

Tim, from what I remember, rivet nuts were used on the hinged fiberglass dash flop down panels that Meyers sells. Not sure what size hole your drilling, but another couple of idea's >> I've seen nuts with spring loaded arms that will allow you to drill a hole & pass the bolt through with the nut on,,,, once through the spring loaded arms open up on the underside so you can tighten the bolt... I've also used those inserts which look a little like rivet nuts,, but its a nut set into a rubber tube,,,, sorry but I cant think of the name,,, but you drill the hole as you would with a rivet nut and push the rubber tube into the hole,, then as you screw the bolt into it and tighten up, it expands the rubber and grips.. Mel,This is what you are talking about,,They use these on BMW motorcycles to hold on the body panels,,David i was just looking at the ones you are showing me,,I think that mite be the way to go,,Thanks guys,, PS Mel they are called Well Nuts. They say the second thing to go is your memory ,I can't remember what the first is,, LOL Its hell getting old.

Check out Mc Master Carr. at one time they had fiberglass fasteners. I went back about a year ago and they were gone. Another place that has the riv-nuts is a "Good" Ace hardware. The ones in the small towns that carry ever thing. You can crimp them using a long screw with a washer and a jamb nut. other sources are Avaition supply companies.

I used anchor nuts and countersunk pop rivets to hold my hood, bonnet, nosecone, whatever we are going to call it. The glass on these Manx bodies is very thick, I can't see it pulling out. You could almost run suspension off it
