NEVADA - Critical Call To Action

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber in the Carson City Area,

BRC just received an email Action Alert from Doug Holcomb, President
of the Pine Nut Mountain Trails Association (PNMTA http://www.pnmta.org ), with a Critical Call To Action.

Doug says this issue is separate from the BLM Carson District
planning that is currently happening. Below is a copy of a letter that
Doug sent to the members of the Pine Nut Mountain Trails Association
and other local OHV folk. Please take a minute to read the alert, take
action and then pass it along to friends, family and riding buddies.

If you have any questions, contact Doug Holcomb, President, PNMTA,
530-577-4622.

Thanks,

Ric Foster

ACTION ALERT

In 1999 Carson City voters passed Q18, a ballot measure to add .25%
of 1 cent to the sales tax for "open recreation". It was to purchase
land and use existing open space for view corridors, ball fields, and
to encourage trails. Nowhere in the ballot wording does it say
anything about closing motorized access to existing Carson City/County
motorized trails. Also nowhere in the ballot measure wording does it
mention "PASSIVE RECREATION". The term passive recreation comes up in
the paragraph written as the argument in favor of the measure. NOT IN
THE MEASURE WORDING ITSELF.

Now the Open Space Committee is trying to close a huge amount of
existing motorized routes in the Carson City/County open space areas.
This includes Prison Hills, the area between Deer Run Rd and Mound
House, the wooded area between the BLM office and the river on Deer
Run Rd, BLM access areas near Mexican Dam, Kings Canyon Rd., Ash
Canyon Rd., and more.

This Open Space Committee is made up of non-motorized recreation
people, and they are trying hard to push their "passive
recreation/non-motorized" agenda on the County Board. So far they have
been meeting at poorly announced, I hate to say but will, almost semi
secret meetings, with little to no opposing viewpoints. So the Board
thinks that this is the wishes of all the local residents.

So if any of you think this is wrong, your (possibly) only chance to
stand up and inform them of that, is at an upcoming meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 15 at 6:00 pm. The
meeting will be held in the Sierra Room in the Community Center. You
will be allowed to give public comment during this meeting.

The address is 851 East Williams St ( Carson Community Center corner
of Hwy 50 and Roop).

THIS MEETING NEEDS TO BE PACKED WITH MOTORIZED RECREATION
PEOPLE!!!!!!!

The Board needs to know that responsible motorized recreation is a
valid use of open space and fits the ballot measure intent.

See you there. Monday, October 15, 2012 6:00pm
