Help... Havasu Off Road CLOSED FOREVER !!!

Post by 1856 »

Please Take a moment send a letter to BLM :
Posted 1/1/11

Time is running out! BLM comment deadline ends February 28, 2011!
The clock is ticking down to the final day that comments will be accepted.
BLM inaccuracies in the trail inventory were discovered so BLM
headquarters ordered the comment period to include for consideration
& review non-inventoried trails that existed prior to May 10, 2007
for inclusion to the inventory.

What does this mean to off roaders in the Havasu area?

This rapidly dwindling time period time is a call to immediate
action to get your comments in. If you have trails that are not shown
on the BLM maps but they do appear on the current June 2007 Goggle Earth
satellite imagery the BLM has agreed to review them for inclusion. If you don’t get them in they’re out – forever closed[/b]! And just because you submitted these missing trails does not mean “there in,” all it means is that they’ll consider them[/i]
for inclusion. You must submit substantial comments to support them
too. Whew, nobody said this was going to be easy. Read on as we have
done a lot to help you.

Remember that the plan favored by the BLM is set to close 75% of the trails
forever! The comment period is time critical – please act now as the
clock is ticking away!
What the Havasu 4 Wheelers are doing -

We have made the decision to support Alternative Access Map D and to
concentrate on documenting the need to return to open status suggested
closed trails or portions thereof that we turned in five years ago as
our existing and historically used H4W trails.
[/u][/b]

We have identified the routes we need to save and have assembled the
justifying comments necessary the BLM is required to consider.
"Comments" - and that's all we have and are allowed to fight with. For
the comments to be considered by the BLM as substantive they must be
specific and relate to a particular route or set of routes. The more
specific and articulate the comments are plus the more comments in
number they receive increases the possibility that the BLM may modify or
possibly reverse a closure decision.

What the BLM will do next –

The BLM is set and will proceed to close the vast majority of trails in the Havasu area unless they receive overwhelming comments from the public. And that’s you! So you see comments are the only tools we have so it is critical that
everyone in the off road community actively participate in this
process! And comments they must have to reverse a closure decision to
open. Remember that well funded anti-desert access organizations are
actively fighting to close everything so the BLM must have your comments
to provide the justification to revise a closure decision.

Send a comment letter! Here’s where the help part is…
To assist you in sending the BLM a comment letter we are providing a .pdf
file link on our website above that will contain all of the information
you will need to submit a letter. You may forward this .pdf to friends
here and out of town. You spend how many days a year riding in the
desert? How much Well spend at least just one day and write comment
letters to save your trails! Just one day - or your trails are gone
forever!

After February 28th it’s all over except for the crying……….
is is our last opportunity to have real and effective input on the trails
our club has worked on and devoted five years of effort to preserve. The
deadline is February 28th 2011. After that what ever is closed is closed forever[/b]………………..

But you’re not a H4W member or a member of any off road club. What can you do to help?
If you and your friends are non-H4W members but enjoy the desert they need
to get involved! Encourage them to contact the BLM, get the
information, and provide constructive reasons to the BLM prior to
February 28th why specific routes should remain open. If you have a
quad, side by side, or motorcycle, check to see if your trails are
missing, closed, or partially closed. Submit missing tracks with GPS
coordinates and maps, and do write comment letters on those missing or
closed portions.

And everyone who is not a H4W member needs to organize. We encourage you and your friends to join a club or form one! Havasu critically needs ATV, dirt bike, and UTV organizations.

Lance Cramer, a local realtor, is trying to organize ATV, side by side, UTV and dirt bike users. If you are one of these folks please contact him at lance@lancecramer.com or 486-9145.

Any chance we can get all (or some) of the RBC folks together and have a letter writing party? Sometime in Jan or early Feb might be good for me as we will be in and out of the NorCal area.
