Diana's Turista

Post by FulsGld »

A while back Diana and I decided that we needed a buggy that was easier
to get into. Luckily we found a Turista/Resorter in Mexico that a fellow
was selling on eBay. We won the bid, and TonyD and I took off to El
Centro (the PO said he would deliver it to me there at the WalMart) and
picked it up. It took about 4 months, but my brother and I tore it down,
rebuilt or replaced everything, put it on an IRS chassis, Dark-Side
Engine, put some Scion xB seats in it, and away Diana and I went. She
just loves it. We can carry the grandkids in it (or the dogs) or just a
bunch of stuff. Since I'm getting paranoid about the body getting
destroyed somehow, I've contacted some professional fiberglass folks
(they make repo Lotus bodies and chassis) and they are going to freshen
up the body and pop a mold for me next winter. Here's a picture of when
Tony and I got it to his house, and then another of what it looks like
now. Nothing like a long wheelbase buggy (although I still like my
ManxVair).

Diana's Turista

WOW!  Talk about a small world . . .  I tried to buy your resorter during the Manx Club's "Manxes to Margaritaville" run in the mid-1990's! It was sitting in a mechanic's shop / junkyard just across the street from Pete's Camp in San Felipe.  The engine was out of it at the time, and the mechaninc called the owner to see if he would sell it, but my offer was refused.  Here's a couple of pictures I took back then (and one of the other cars in the lot Image

Congratulations on saving a piece of automotive history from suffering an almost certain death in a Mexican junkyard.  Your Resorter looks awesome!
