009 Distributor

Post by FulsGld »

Hey All;

I have this 009 distributor. I heard somewhere that built into this distributor there is a 3 degree retard of the ignition timing to #3 cylinder to let it run cooler when the stock oil cooler (the one in the fan shroud) is used. Is this correct?

yes but is my understanding that all VW distributors also have it, it is why timing must be set at number 1 firing position. the main difference of the 009 is it is fully centrifical advance. no vacuum. great for drag racing. great if you can drive, bad if you can't. you are on the gas always, paying attention to your motor.
