Hello All,
I get the buggy out of the shop this Weekend and was wondering besides an ice chest full of refreshments, what else should I carry in my buggy, me and my wife will be taking off road trails in Big Bear California solo.
Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Rick

One of the best things to bring is a friend in another buggy with a tow rope! LOL Tom

An assortment of tools and spare parts, though you can't carry everything. Chances are you won't need what you carry, but someone else will most likely have something to help with what ever breaks on your buggy. Or you might have what they need when their buggy breaks. We have four small utility bags full of assorted stuff that fit behind the seats, Others carry ammo cans, or other closable containers. Use what ever you want to fill the various different spaces you have. One thing I would carry on every buggy is a spare tire that fits your car (a good compact spare in your bolt pattern will do), especially if it isn't standard VW fare. Another might be some spare gas (1 or 2 gallon container) if you are going any extended distance off-road.

Tom does bring up a good point. We don't travel too far off road unless we are with at least one other vehicle. If you do go by yourself, make sure you have a way to charge a cell phone battery, extra water and some way to make a fire in case it gets dark before you can get out. Think a day-pack type survival kit (tarp, axe, saw, water filter, emergency blankets, pack-able pants/jacket etc...). Be sure to dress accordingly (NO flip-flops etc). Tell someone where you are going to be, and when you should be back. Also a good idea to call someone every day you are out if possible (cell service permitting). Some even carry a personal EPIRB if going way off-road.

And the list goes on.....

Try these threads too. Lots of great info.

I also carry tools and spare parts for things I know I can replace. I carry a lot 18 gal containers worth4312 I carry it in custom storage locked compartment in place of rear seat43134314 . on top a cargo net holds more43164345. I also carry a full size spare tire43214320. the jack is in the storage area. it depends how far you want to go, if you don't go out of town you may not need much. if you live in area with vw supply shops nearby you don't need spares. I was not joking about AAA card; I needed mine a month ago, I was just across town when buggy quit . it was a mystery to me, but I forgot my cell phone. luckily a man in a v8 t-bucket pulled over to compliment on my buggy- he had a cell phone and called AAA for me. got towed home. turned out a relay related to my remote alarm had jostled and set off the ignition cut off. by having been at angle during tow the relay jostled again so it started again. I then looked at the wiring issue and fixed it. I carry a lot because I drive on the beach an towns that don't carry 40 year old vw parts. I also drive long distances without worry. I have been broken down with previous buggys and added what ever the cause was to the carry items; I was a newbie once upon a time. hope this helps.

I agree with Tom. Best thing is to bring along a buddy in another buggy if you are going off-road. I have towed and been towed home before. 10 miles on a bush road is a long way to walk.

A 12 volt compressor and a tire repair kit is handy also. Going off-road, a winch or come-along can get you out of a jam.

Stuck. My buddy Ken is going to pull me backwards in this pic.
