Does anybody know of a shop that makes the full soft top and side curtains for FG buggies?

Soft top and side curtains

Post by jsturtlebuggy »

Bruce is making a soft top for the Manx.  The prototype was at Buellton on Bruce's Kick Out along with the new bolt in roof support system(show cage).
It will have doors and a rear window at roll bar.
The reason Bruce is making this way is for being able to use the rear deck cover and be able to open it.

Contact Winnie, she may know of someone in SoCal that makes full length soft tops.
I think Tom of TJ Customs in Long Island, NY makes complete tops.

I like the hard top on my Kick Out.  I made it so that it opens like a Manxter top to be able to get in and out of easier.ImageImage

Soft top and side curtains

Mike, Bruce says he has a cage and soft top in his shop that should fit your buggy. Maybe we can drive our buggies down to Bruce and Winnie's when we go to work on the Kickout SS to see if it fits.

I found a site that has soft tops, some say the Jeep tops will work but I find them even more expensive. This site http://www.summitracing.com has tops. I'm looking at one Bestop Traditional Bikini Tops 52550-01, the cost is under 100.00
Does anyone think this one will work?

You get what you pay for. Why would you want a cheap top and side curtains for your $20,000 plus buggy? I spent $800.00 for a well made top and side curtains from a local upholsterer that lasted 18 years, 3 hurricanes, and too many rain storms. I had a second one made a year ago. it is made of boat top material like the first. I use the round aluminum tracks silicone sealed and riveted to the windshield frame. That way it is not dependent on tension to stay in place. It can be put on in the wind. I use 1 bow to create a sedan look rear storage area. The bow then holds the folded top, and side curtains in a fabric pouch held to it by Velcro. 5067506343444356435743214316[image]. The side curtains are rolled up and store in individual fabric Velcro close bags. I made the bags myself, with moms 1960;s sewing machine, along with the top storage bag. The upholsterer made tops for buggys back in the day, and made custom tops and interiors for hot rods, and boats. My current new top was his last project before he retired. Find a local boat custom upholster in your area to have a quality top made. Use the one recommended by other hot rodders. Get real you don't want a cheap vinyl top like back in the day, that shrinks in cold and stretches in the sun. I stay dry in the rain, and warm in chilly weather. I am a cheap guy but know value when I see it.4314
