Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and students. It looks as if he may have been returning from the Red Mountain Fire Lookout after sunset. Don was the first MC member to aproach us on our first run at Lone Pine a few years ago to invite us on a late afternoon run up to Cerro Gordo. That and many other memories we will never forget. He was one of the nicest, most friendly people we have ever met. Don, Rest in Peace. We miss you.

Services for Don
Don's brother Dave called me this morning. They are still in shock. Dave said Don was such a conservative guy and none of them can understand how this happened. Services will be at 12 noon, Sunday, July 1, at Valley Wide Recreation Center, 901 W. Esplanade, San Jacinto, CA. The service will be casual, and they said folks are welcome to wear either Hawaiian or Jimmy Buffett shirts. "That is what Don would have wanted." In lieu of flowers they are going to set up a scholarship fund at the High School where Don taught. More to be announced on that later.

I just recieved an e-mail fron Angie Josker, girlfriend of Don's. she would like to know if anyone would like to share any fun or funny stories of any buggy adventures or attend the memorial. please contact her at (915) 526-4866. she would love to have buggies in front of the memorial in honor of his life and the love of all the dune buggy runs.

I just spoke with Angie. She said that she saw Don just before he left. He said he would be out in the buggy no more than an hour or so with his neighbor (who is house bound). She didn't know where they were going to go, so it was a surprise to her when they ended up over an hour's drive one way from the house (Apparently there is a small Indian casino in that area also). She said Don was not familiar with the area they were in, but his neighbor was. She didn't have much more info on the accident, but she did say that apparently somehow they ran off the road and hit a cement berm. Don tried to get the buggy back under control, but as soon as they came back onto the asphalt, the buggy rolled. At some point the right rear wheel sheered off and when it went over, both the roll bar and windshield just folded over, offering no protection what so ever. It was a devastating scene. She did not have any other details as to what direction they were traveling or if it happened in the sweeping curve or somewhere else. She knows Don was a very careful driver, and doesn't think he would drive in any kind of a hurry. She feels that it might be related to his unfamiliarity of the road. Angie said to let everyone know that if they bring a buggy, there will be parking set aside right in front for them. If anyone wants to speak at the services, give her a call. She knew how much the buggy group meant to him. He was proud to be a part of it and enjoyed being with all of us.
