Manx On The Banx 2015 - Official Thread

Post by rzeller »

The snow has melted and sounds of buggy engines are filling the air. While the buggy season has already hit high gear on the west coast, the east coast is just getting starting.

As you prepare your vacation requests with your employers, significant others, dog sitters, etc. please consider attending the fifth anniversary of the Manx On The Banx - MOTB 2015. Believe it or not the MOTB will be 5 years old this year!!!! Come out and help us celebrate the Manx Club's premier east coast dune buggy event. The MOTB is a week-long play-cation on North Carlolina's beautiful Outer Banks.

MOTB 2015 dates are: 12- 17 Oct 2015. Event planning has already started.

Check out the website http://www.manxonthebanx.com for all things MOTB. If you've never attended the event before you will find galleries of pictures from MOTB 2011-2014 on the website to give you an idea of what goes on at this event.

Visit http://www.manxonthebanx.com often as new information will be added as it becomes available related to lodging, camping, activities, and more.

Hope to see you in October (12-17 Oct 2015).

I am also starting to slap together 2 racers (one for Kathleen & one for me) for this event, and I have a couple of questions about the track.

#1 - is it a single slope, or a slope that tuns into a flat? If it is a slope that turns into a flat, what is the approximate angle of the slope?

#2 - how wide is each lane?

Thanks! Tom

Tom,

I'm glad to see you're getting started on your racer(s). I've heard through the grapevine that others are well under way with their's too.

As for the track: we are borrowing the track for this year and will assess whether we will build one of our own in the future. As I understand the design of the track it has dual lanes and single slope to a flat run out. If you build it within the specs outlined in the rules (width, length, and height limits) your racer will run on the track. I will be making one clarification on the wheels very soon (regarding tread).

<edited to add picture>

Here is a diagram of the track we are borrowing. It doesn't have the lane widths but you'll understand the incline.

Just a very quick update on the MOTB. I will be updating the website (http://www.manxonthebanx.com) with important information very soon (like next week). Vince and I have been very busy getting an event agenda together and finalizing venues. Part of the website update will include the preliminary agenda.

Registration will be open at the end of next week and will run through the end of Sept. This year there is a significant savings on early registration fees over walk-up/on-site registration. Please don't procrastinate :D

MOTB is right around the corner.

Thanks for that information Bud. You don't have a minimum height in the rules, so knowing what the track is like, one can figure something out. If we know the width of the lanes, a tool could be made to get the car square to the track, rather than "eyeball" it. Tom

Need Your Help

Post by rzeller »

Early registration is scheduled to open for the 5th Anniversary Manx On The Banx (2015) on 15 August and we need your help now.

One of the biggest fund raisers for the MOTB event are our raffles and silent auction. The money collected at our fund raisers is used to put on future MOTB events. How can you help? If you have something that you can or would be willing to donate for our raffles or silent auction please contact me (Bud@manxonthebanx.com) or Vince at Vince@manxonthebanx.com. We have had many gracious contributors, club members and sponsors, in the past who are directly responsible for funding this year’s MOTB. If you have contributed in the past, thank you very much.

Thanks.

Thanks Gary. Jon Boyton did our design, as he has for the last four years, and Jan-Michael Sutton did the artwork for us this year.

With only 55 days until MotB 2015, has everyone finished their builds (or maintenance) on their buggies?

Looking forward to meeting you all again!

Well, almost.... Of course, it's been almost for a couple of months now. Fixed a couple of wires that pulled loose when I put the hood on and pulled them out, installed the fire extinguisher (had to before electrical testing), aired up the tires, and put the engine tin on one of the motor candidates. Tomorrow is full electrical testing, and possibly motor install. Choice of motors is up in the air. I have an 1835 long block that I have to put the venturis and jets in the carbs for, install the alternator, and a few other things, or a 1641 that is almost done being rebuilt by another club member here. It's 4 hours away, and I'm trying to make a local show this weekend. Still have a few more odds and ends to finish up, such as all the electrical testing, motor tuning, windshield install, gauge programming, etc.. but almost there. I've done less in 2 months than Joe Wheeler does in a week!
