2015 - ECVW 2015 - It's on!

Post by vincent9993 »

Yes France has been very busy planning the route options and date for the 2015 edition of ECVW - East Coast Visit West.

The current date will be:

Montreal Departure: Tuesday June 30th - noon
Montreal Return: Sunday July 19th

The official (preliminary) route will be posted within the next 2 weeks. Expect to see a northern USA trip out to California with a trip down the coastal highway through Big Sur. Expect to drive through Vegas, Utah and Colorado on the return trip.

I promise more details shortly.

We are in for this! Leave time on the Big Sur portion for some of the stops, like Julia Pfeiffer State Park where the waterfall falls onto the beach. Tom & Kathleen

As announced earlier, we are currently thinking of leaving Montreal on June 30th.

Due to my vacation restrictions, we have to drive back home after Manx Over The Falls on June 28th. This means that we will be returning to Buffalo
on June 30th (800 mile round trip).

We were wondering if any of the Manx Over the Falls attendees would consider driving West with us if we left Buffalo on July 1st? We realize that this means that you would be waiting/staying 2 extra days in Buffalo waiting for us to return.

We’re working hard to find a way to begin the ECVW trip at the end of the Manx Over The Falls event but at this time, it looks like we may have no choice but to head back home for a few days of work.

The other alternative we may want to entertain is letting you guys get a head start and we could try to catch up with the group.

We’d like to get your thoughts on this little detail (ok important detail).

WOW! What a route. You guys must have ESP. Kathleen is only missing 3 states - South Dakota, Nebraska & Iowa and she will have been in all 50 states (I have already done it), and you put them on the route(if we make a slight detour going across southern Minnesota on the way back). Her buggy will also jump from 30 states to 39 states. Death Valley in July will be fun, but I see that it could be short cutted to just go to Vegas. We may just stay the extra days in Buffalo and meet you there. Thanks for all your effort on this, it will be EPIC! Tom

Hey;

I was wondering about the Hermiston, OR to Mount Shasta, CA leg of the run. If you were to peel off at US-97 off of I-84 at Biggs Junction and head South, you would get to Mount Shasta, CA about 110 miles sooner. It's a 55mph road (everyone does 60) in OR but turns to 65 in CA, with little towns along the way and some nice restaurants. About 3 peaks to go over and beautiful scenery. Great views of Mt Shasta. Would miss all of the big city traffic of Portland, Eugene, Salem, Albany, not to mention the 8mi Ashland Grade outside of Ashland, OR. Might be an option.

After a brief look at the map, we will join in West of Cleveland OH on July 1, 2015. Most likely right after I-90 joins I-80. About mile marker 140 on I-80/90.

Looking at the group departure time and trip length for us, we would leave the Charleston WV area about 5:30 AM. Might talk to the parties involved to see if they would want to make a few hours run the night before so 7-1-15 wouldn't be so long of a driving day.

It looks there will be 3 of us in our group. My old Army buddy (and now Manx Club member) Tom Grither from the St. Louis area wants to make the loop from Chicago back to Chicago. He got hooked when we did the Sea 2 Sea run. He is a good mechanic, so I hope that means nobody breaks down. LOL Tom

For those participating in the ecvw15, is anyone planning to pull a trailer, or have a support vehicle. Once again my entire family is on board, and the plan is to drive a buggy, and also have the Durango flat towing the Tow'd(assuming it's done).

We are bringing a support vehicle, just like ECVW 2014. Its a place to put all the stuff, get out of the weather & be able to rescue yourself if you break down. All of that was needed on ECVW 2014 by us.

Paul - will you be able to drive the Towd if the Manx breaks down? Tom

Wasn't looking for the Tow'd to be used in the event of a break down, but rather a vehicle for Stephanie to drive in Big Bear and enough buggy seats for the entire family. If weather permits, she can always unhook it and drive some along the route.
While checking hotel reviews, I was also looking at hotel parking, and got me thinking about what we are bringing? I want to know ahead of time if I need an alternative parking plan for a specific hotel. Will you be using the van or the "Whale"?

Paul - we are bring the Dodge Minivan. The "Whale" causes to many parking issues and only gets 1/2 the MPG of the van. I am making a special tow bar for the Manxter because of the Mendola front suspension not allowing the normal bug tow bar to be used. Once again, I want to be prepared. Also getting many spare parts gathered for the trip. Tom
