Can any of the board members add a little light on the member stat's listed on the forum page.It lists 20,373 members,is this the total membership since the club was formed or is it the 2008 dues paying members? If it is the former then they are really no longer members if they have not paid the dues. Also,it lists 162 active members,is this the number that attend outings, post here on the sight or have paid their dues this year? What is the % of Manx owners listed in the registry that are members? It seems like this year there is even less activity on this sight than last, was hoping for more interest with the changes that are taking place in the club.

Dave, I'll take an unofficial stab at the number of "forum members." I suspect what you are seeing, judging by some of the user names, are our "friends" the spammers. The way most boards work is that anyone can register for an account, most boards are set up so "new members" have to be approved. Unfortunately, the program doesn't prevent them from being listed as "newest member" drining up the membership count. It also means that the bogus ones (and most are pretty easy to spot, my favorite is viagra_cialis_photoshop) have to be deleted. If I were to guess, and not pointing fingers at all, this board got behind at some point and catching up is nearly impossible. Especially if you have a real job. Most of the spammers & porn sites have auto-run programs that keep spewing their crap. I'm admin for the Texas Club's forum and we get hammered every day by bogus requests for accounts from all over the world. Today alone I deleted 24 requests for access to the board (they were all very obviously bogus.) It's truly a bear to keep up with them. Hope that helps explain the 20,000+ number from forum "memberships"

Dave, Great questions. I have been asking some of the same questions for about a year. Since 1995, when Bruce & Winnie started the Manx Dune Buggy Club there have been about 3278 certificates of membership issued. Of that number only about 658 have paid up dues as of July 15. Of the 658 members who are active only 566 hav given the Club an E-Mail address. The numbers (20,373) that you read on the web site are misleading at best. The rather large number of 20,000+ is inflated by anyone who completes the registration process, obviously the vast majority are freeloaders who must derive some pleasure being able to crash the site and sign up. Are they members? Do they pay dues? Not in any way shape or form. Once the site is in full tune most of these folks will probably just go away. This is another reason that the site administrators have asked all of the active members to put their Member number in the signature field. In the future it will allow the administrators to quickly determine who to cull and who to allow access to. The active member number (162) is perhaps the only number that is close to being correct. This represents the dues paying member who has registered on the Manx Club Forum. You also mention the 'registry'. The Manx Registry is a Meyers Manx publication that is maintained by Meyers Manx, Inc. The Manx Club is not associated with the 'registry' in any way. Please refer any 'registry' questions to Meyers Manx, Inc. at 760-749-6321. I hope this answers your questions. Questions concerning membership can be sent to manxmember@yahoo.com

Thanks for the quick response and explanations, looks like the valid numbers need to be maintained and the rest eliminated.

Numbers

That very thing is being looked into. However, it will take some time to work through the process. Each member can assist in this by being 100% sure that they have placed their membership number in the signature field on the UserCP.
