West Coast to Manx around the Mountain, August 2018

Post by manxvair »

We are planning to drive our Dual Sport from So-Cal to the Manx Around the Mountain event in Maggie Valley, NC in August. We will depart from Southern California on Friday 3rd and arrive in Maggie Valley, NC on Wednesday 8th. I have not yet set a route and am open to discuss idea's, sight seeing desires. We could go straight east on HWY 40 or go up into Zion, Utah and through the Colorado mountains for a more scenic and possibly cooler route. After the event we will be leaving our Dual Sport in storage in NC and flying home, we will fly back out in October to pick it up and drive it to the Manx on the Banx event, after MOTB we will drive it back home to So-Cal. If you are interested in joining us, Please feel free to contact me.

Looks like you're not to far off of the route, We can explore that option.

Ok here's a rough route proposal, Route A will depart So-Cal on Friday 8/3 and be a bit more scenic, Route B can leave So-Cal on Saturday 8/4 and join up together in Tucumcari, NM.
Route A
Fri 8/3 Simi Valley, CA to St. George, UT=420 miles, -1 hr time change
Sat 8/4 St. George, UT to Durango, CO=414 miles-Zion National Park
Sun 8/5 Durango, CO to Tucumcari, NM=404 miles
Route B
Sat 8/4 Simi Valley, CA to Flagstaff, AZ=498 miles,-1 hr time change
Sun 8/5 Flagstaff, AZ to Tucumcari, NM=496 miles
Both
Mon 8/6 Tucumcari, NM to Henryetta, OK=459 miles, -1 hr time change
Tues 8/7 Henryetta, OK to Jackson, TN=465 miles
Wed 8/8 Jackson, TN to Maggie Valley, NC=402 miles

We will be leaving our buggy in storage and flying home so anybody driving the return trip will need to map it out.

Looks like another epic adventure! We should see you at one or both East Coast events, but will not be traveling with you, except possibly for the trip back from MOTB if it works into our long range plan. If so, we would be available as a support vehicle in our RV.

It appears we will be the only buggy driving so we have changed up the route. We will be taking Interstate 40 across;
Fri 8/3-Simi Valley, CA to Bullhead, AZ meet up with the Landon's.
Sat 8/4-Bullhead, AZ to Grants, NM 425miles
Sun 8/5-Grants, NM to Shamrock, TX 452 miles (time change, gain 1 hr)
Mon 8/6-Shamrock, TX to Bigelow, AK 472 miles
Tues 8/7-Bigelow, AK to Crossville, TN 490 miles (time change, gain 1 hr)
Wed 8/8-Crossville, TN to Maggie Valley, NC 160 miles

As of right now the only confirmation of joining us on this trip are;
1, Donna & Mark Landon, truck & 5th wheel trailer
2, Susan & Tom Swzajkos, truck flat towing buggy

Just give the keys to your better half and she and the sweet Landon can join us on a pre-run. You and the hairy Landon can hang with the locals. They like SoCal boys ;-)
