Lowered Front Shock Help

Post by Tominator »

Can anyone suggest a shock (make and part number) that will work with an adjustable front beam (ball Joint). I am using stock spindles . I ordered short KYB shocks (Part # 343208 ) with the adjustable beam but they are to short - and stock shocks are to long . A shock that is 11-12 inches collapsed and 16 - 17 inches extended should do the trick. Any Ideas? Tj

Bilstein has shocks for a Ball joint front end. B46-620 is 16.12in extended and 10.31in compressed, with 5.81in travel. B46-493 is 18.62in extended and 11.54in compressed, with 7.09in travel. It is made for the front of a VW Thing. Mckenzie's carries Bilstein shocks.

I've used stock shocks with the top bump stop/ mountings removed, on lowered front ends before now.

If you are using it on the asphault , I would look at Koni. I found a set that were for the rear of a 78 Toyota wagon that had the correct stroke, etc , NIB for cheap on ebay. (That is for a bus front end) I have talked to the people at Koni USA a few times and they were more than helpful. You may have to get a PN from them and have a dealer make the order . The down side is that in most cases you have to remove the shock to adjust it. They also make a really short coilover with external spring and dampening adjustment if you are planning on autocrossing or just want a teeth rattleing race car ride.

Bilstein does make front shocks for KP front ends, the part number is B46-0032. As Joseph said Mckenzie's should have them.
