Tow'd U bolts and tow bar, ISO

Post by pongo »

In search of new long U bolts for the Tow'd. If you've replaced them, where did you get them?

Also in search of a Tow'd tow bar. Looking for a source to purchase a coupler, in the style originally used. Or, if anyone has a bar laying around their garage, and would like to sell it.

Thanks Mike, I saw the bars listed on TurnKey, listed, "not in stock", I emailed couple weeks ago, no reply. I figured, it wouldn't hurt to ask around. I think I can reuse my U bolts, but would replace them, if they're readily available.

I think Brad has been in Australia the last couple of weeks, might explain not responding I'll try to reach him.
If you can find a suspension shop they might be able to make you new U bolts, I had one out here make 1/2" to replace the 3/8" ones that we had.

You might be able to find some u bolts designed for 4x4 or trucks. I've also remember someone using allthreads.

Here is link with some info

I made a tow bar out of 2 1/4 od thick wall tube that's 42 inch long if I remember correctly. I then welded and bolted on a standard hitch as I couldn't find one that looked like the one Bruce used.
Unfortunately it doesn't retract all the way the originals do.

thanks Doran, I've check out the links.

For the long u-bolts, I located a company in NY, and have submitted the original dimensions to request a per unit price and minimum number per order.

Paul,

I made a spare set for my Towd from Stainless Rod and threaded the ends.

They are pretty straight forward if youcannot get them made.
