Trail Mapping

Post by manxvair »

Preparing trail runs for the Mammoth event the Mammoth tourism representative Caroline shared with me this free website of back country roads & trails in California. The contributors include BLM, USFS & National Parks offices. You can zoom into an area and then click on a trail, a window will open with some details and when you scroll down you have 2 different options .gpx or .kml files to download that entire trail route, you can then open that file in another mapping app like GPX Editor where you can cut and splice different trail routes to make your route, that you then can transfer to your mobile navigation device. I found this saved me a lot of time compared to having to build the entire route 1 track point at a time.
