please don't get me wrong. try what you got for tires see if it works before you change things up. I never took my manxter off road and it did have wide tires up front. I have read that to big a tire could possible have issues that's all i'm saying. get the real advice from other manxter offroaders. Have a good day, see you in the sand.

I drive the dunes in Pismo, Coos Bay, Florence, Sandlake, and St Anthony Dunes. I air down to 3 lbs on all tires when I get there. I have big tires in the back and skinny ones in the front (so the front tires just don't slide on the sand but actually give me steering control). I drive to the dunes with the tires aired up and leave them aired down for the trip back to the house/RV Park where I air them back up for the next trip. This is in the Turista (street legal).

I've been taking the Manxvair down to Glamis since the mid ninety's, due to it's heavy Corvair drive-train rear end weight and a low horse power engine (80 hp) I would put paddles on the rear, in addition I would always end up filling the back seat with the kids and the roof rack with the lunch coolers, on the front were standard street tires. It is equipped with steering brakes and definitely requires planning to pick the right course through the dunes to avoid getting stuck. At Pismo in 2016 we just aired down the street tires on both the Manxvair and the Tow'd to 8 lbs and had no issues. The sand is definitely different between the 2 locations.
