Introducing the Manx Club "Long-Haul LEAGUE" award

Post by vincent9993 »

Manx Club Long-Haul LEAGUE award
Award created on October 19th 2013

This award has been created to encourage people to drive their buggies to Manx Club events, expand their event attendance footprint and recognize their effort/achievement. Anyone who sets a goal and successfully drives or rides more than 1,000 miles to a Manx Club event is most likely looking at a multi-day journey in their buggy. In an effort to recognize this accomplishment the Manx Club will reward the driver and passenger with this award. People have asked if they would qualify for the award if they drove a loop of more than 1,000 mile to attend a local Manx Club event. The reality is that if a team is willing to commit to driving in circle or making a detour to get to the event to reach this milestone, they would qualify but should really consider attending an extended event and have a chance to experience how other areas hold events and get to meet other Manx Club members. This award is earned on the honor system, no actual documented proof is required. The drive has to be continuous and you only earn the award once.

Congratulations to all that have already earned it!

Introducing the Manx Club "Long-Haul LEAGUE" award

Post by Tom-Kathleen »

What a great idea.  Will the award be handed out to previously documented 1000+ mile trips, or only from Sea to Sea forward?   Tom

That's a good question Tom. My initial reaction was that it would be awarded on a going forward basis but I leave that up to the people that will be handing out the award, the Event Coordinators to decide if they want to honor past accomplishments.

As previously stated, not actual documented proof is required but we highly encourage everyone to publically announce and document your travels for all to see and hopefully inspire others to commit to similar adventures.

Remember announcing it is your 1st step to this accomplishment.

Tom and Kathleen, we've got you down for the continental crossing with us next summer.  We're trying to lobby and convince a few others including some French speaking members from our neck of the woods.

Vincent & France,
Thank you very much for creating the pin.
Previous trips in the buggy have been to SoCal from home which ends up being in the 1,200 mile range.
The C2C trip and with the visits with family and friends across the country ended up being over a total of 7,000 miles.

Joe,

I think Vincent & France mean that the mileage is computed for a 1 way trip to an event.
No round trips allowed.
For example the average trip from Fair Oaks to Buellton or Big Bear Lake is under 500 miles

That is correct Joe. The award recognizes driving a dune buggy more then 1,000 to an event. We all understand that most of us will need to find a way back and will most likely mean driving our buggies the reverse route but that's a bonus! ;-)

Yes, I under the way it works,
All I was stating in my post that the furthest I had driven in the buggy before the C2C event were to SoCal events.
Being in California although most Manx Club events are south of me which ends being in the 400 to 600 miles one way depending on which way I drive to get there.
The Tahoe run is my favorite since it only 98 miles from the house.

Joseph, you've earned your award (and our respect) fair and square! I think Joe was just trying to (get me to) clarify the criteria for earning the award. It's all about not reducing the value of the achievement. Some have suggested we keep a log of the recipients and their traveled distance and date for prosperity, I'll work on that.

Congrats again.

Vincent & France . What a great Idea!
Besides receiving multiples of this award you should receive another for the concept and fruition. I think we'll just recognize you'll as " the Award Folks"
You're the kind that makes this club so great....Thanks

What is the significance of the "solo" beside some of the names on the current list?

Great question Joe, those people accomplished the 1,000 mile drive without the support of a group.

Solo = Get in the buggy and go. No chase vehicle or other accompanying vehicle. just 1 buggy, 1 or 2 people, gear, and maybe 2 or 3 credit cards.

This is a highly recommended way to travel with a buggy

I have to ask....why is this highly recommended and what would be the rational for it?
