Re: New guy to the club with carb question

Firebuggy, Tom knows performance, he used to race formula vee. I've known him for 20 years, mostly competing at car shows where I always lost: except once in 2001 with my signature series Manx. We talked and he told me of his new Manxter Manx he was building, and that was the last time I won. He bui...

Re: New guy to the club with carb question

Your 1600cc dual port engine is a good durable, and reliable VW motor. It can take a lot. It will be difficult to beat up, unless it is not maintained. Your plan to upgrade to a larger motor is best to start with a brand new engine in the future. What is happening now with your carb is : your carb i...

Re: New guy to the club with carb question

Welcome to the club. Your carb is known for having the issue you describe. Do a tune up yourself, including valve adjustment and static timing. Proper warmup of the engine may lessen the problem. I live in MA. and can't recommend anyone in your area. You san do the carb tune yourself, its not that d...

Re: OOOOOPSS

As I was putting the finishing touches on a buggy: I drilled a perfect hole in a new seal modified installed( full )gas tank. The hole was for another rivet to hold a "L" bracket to bolt in my 1/2 underdash parcel tray 4340 4326 . Gas poured out, while I went to the auto store for a patch ...

Re: Soft top and side curtains

You get what you pay for. Why would you want a cheap top and side curtains for your $20,000 plus buggy? I spent $800.00 for a well made top and side curtains from a local upholsterer that lasted 18 years, 3 hurricanes, and too many rain storms. I had a second one made a year ago. it is made of boat ...

I have been a little hard on newbies that ask questions to easily found answers, solutions on dune buggys. But we were all newbies once. So what was that stupid mistake you made on your first buggy, just to show newbies they can get over it. I have made many. I had seen this mistake on used buggys I...

Re: Softening Shocks

bill stiff front ends have been a problem from day 1. if you have a king pin they are stiffer, Bruce recommends removing torsion springs (a major undertaking). if you have a stabilizer bar, remove it. high tire pressure also gives bad ride. a stock worn out shock is recommended. sorry I don't know o...

Re: 100 Signature Series Manx's

wow, just wow! talk to Bruce and find out what he used on my #49 to glue the emblem, as it has never fallen off or loosened. 4356 . The buggy has had 17 years of seasonal beach use and was stored wrapped outside for most of the 18 years I have owned it. 5097 5056 . I have machine buffed the emblem wi...

Re: Sidewinder exhaust

if you mean the useless chrome bumper attached to the skid plate; then yes. the sidewinder exhaust was designed by Bruce to fit the manx buggy. it is designed to be quite. Bruce does not like noisy exhaust. Buy the best as you don't want to change it more than once. take your time and don't break of...

Re: Introduction and heat riser discussion

hi bat. today my wife declined a ride in my buggy; because she knows I have no heat riser, and the buggy will run s*itty. It will run; due to its perfect tune and my gentle throttle response. Just so you know; the factory heatriser system is weak. it is intended to heat to room temperature, or only ...

Re: 100 Signature Series Manx's

The signature is a metal emblem, not a decal. when Bruce delivered mine he swore my emblem would never come off. he said it was held on with an industrial polimer. Yours looked like leftovers from double sided emblem tape. hope you find the emblem.

Re: Manx vs. Manx II

nicely done and welcome to the club. I like drum brakes, they don't get brake dust all over your rims, and easily adjust. I will assume you have some knowledge of VW. I have the bigger front brake cylinders on my front and back they work great. I suggest you adjust your brake shoes for now. I sugges...
