Re: Steering column

Steve, I'm really not qualified or experienced to comment on your proposed solution/idea - I'll leave that to more experienced fabricators. I will say we set mine up to reduce the angle of the column and height to match the seating position first. Then added the required u-joints and straight shaft ...

Re: Steering column

Thanks very much Bud, this was incredibly helpful. So it looks like you had to create your own custom steering box coupler? Thank you again for all the great info. Steve We had to modify the coupler due to the splines (count) on the u-joints not matching the steering box coupler splines. I don't kn...

Re: Steering column

Hi Guys, has anyone used an aftermarket steering column to replace the original VW one? I am trying to get a column that has the auto turn off for the blinkers and horn and tilt. I have looked at Flaming River but wanted to know how these would connect to the rag joint. Is there a conversion kit? A...

Re: Bud's Manx Restoration - Part Deux

One of the primary reasons for this "Part Deux" restoration was because of the failing of some of the critical components on our buggy. A "known" issue was the front beam and my fear that it would break at the point where the adjusters were welded in. Turns out the beam and the ...

Re: Bud's Manx Restoration - Part Deux

When building your "forever" buggy you look for modifications that will enhance your driving experience well into your retirement years. One of my "wants" on this build was a tilt steering column to ease the ingress and egress for the driver. I decided on a quality-built column ...

Re: Front disc brake conversion

Hi folks, has anyone on here done a conversion from the standard drum brakes to disc brakes? If so, may I ask what kit you used or where did you get the parts? I have adjusted the current drum brakes in the front and bled the lines and the buggy stops OK when a quick stop is needed, but not great. ...

Re: Bud's Manx Restoration - Part Deux

You might think that the simple solution is just to replace the missing/dissolved gasket with a new one. Well... at Zarkov Industries we believe in experimenting, so we put a brand new - off the shelf - gasket in a cup of gasoline over night. Seems the rubber, actually Buna N (Nitrile) which it's m...

Re: Bud's Manx Restoration - Part Deux

Ever wonder what some of the the caustic affects of E85 gasoline and the salty beach sand does to those hidden parts on your buggy? Let's start with how one might get beach sand under the hood of your buggy while out enjoying a peaceful ride with the Father of the fiberglass dune buggy (Bruce Meyer...
