Re: Front Bumper on Classic Manx

Ball joint and link pin refer to how the spindle is mounted to the trailing arms. The earlier link pin has a pin that runs through steering knuckle to the training arm and the later uses ball joints that are pressed into the trailing arms to connect the spindle. On your 66 or 67, it should be a ball...

Re: Front Springs?

New ball joints tend to be pretty stiff and vary depending on the brand. The Fibi-Bilsteins tend to be the best and they still are a little stiff new. It usually takes a little use to loosen them up. You can check the stiffness by jacking up the car and seeing how well the car will steer. Your trail...

Re: Manxter build questions

Unfortunately, there are not many people on here anymore. The information is better and easier to sort through than on Facebook. The wiring harness can be run along the side impact bar to the back. The stock 69 steering column works well. The super beetle column is good and is self supported with a ...

Re: SWING AXLES AND FULCRUM WEAR LIFE

20 years and 45,000 miles with that big of tire is not bad. Maybe pull it out for a service in 10 years just to check things out and replace any worn parts.

Re: OOOOOPSS

In the early 2000's, I had just finished my Signature Manx and took it to the Palomar Mountain run. When you first build a buggy, it is a good idea to know where the on gas gauge you actually run out of gas. My first and only Phillipe Award in over 20 years of Manx runs.

Re: Softening Shocks

I remember a tech article in one of the early Manx Mania's, probably sometime in the late 90's, where Bruce explained how he drained the oil from shocks and replace it with butane lighter fluid? Maybe? Not totally sure on the replacement oil. I don't know if the early Manx Mania's exist online somew...

Re: 100 Signature Series Manx's

Your dad was a great guy and will I miss seeing him at the runs. Good to see that you are going to put the buggy together.

My signature badge came loose also, luckily I caught it before it fell off. Mine had a clear glue where yours looks more like a silicone, so I guess neither worked very good.

Re: Manx ABS dash wanted

So I still have the dash that is listed in this ad:
viewtopic.php?f=84&t=4051

Not sure if it is what you are looking for. It is ABS, but a little used. Pretty solid other than the gauge cutouts and a little cracked in the upper corners.

Re: Brake problem.

Also try readjusting your brakes before bleeding. If the drums have been off, the shoes will need to get re-centered to the drums. They may seem tight and adjusted when you first put the drum on, but after a little driving, they will move and find their center.

Re: Early style shift rod coupler

I would try a quality one from a good supplier:

There should not be any slop as the set screws tighten down and take that out, but yeah, it should fit fairly tight.

Re: Routing wires through tunnel?

1 1/4" sounds a little big, but the idea sounds good. There are a lot of little tubes and things inside of a VW tunnel, but as long as it does not interfere, it should not be a problem. Just remember to leave room if you ever need to remove the shift rod.
