It's 90% copper and 10% nickel, really common in Europe at least for brake lines etc. Maybe it's just called something else in the US? Probably just copper nickel.

Tops the same as that are available in the UK. The original that the mould was taken from originated from Bruce Meyers. He sent it over to the guy who used to mould authorized Manxes over here. It was white with louvres for a rear window. It always reminded me of the top off this toy and used to won...

I think if it were mine (I wish...) I'd just fix it up mechanically rather than fully restore it, in the first instance anyways.

I could live with patina like that! It looks like its worked quite hard for all of its dings and holes.
