Re: Joyridding at MITM

Man, if you think that's a Joyride, you've been driving a single port for too long.

Re: Appraisal

Have your Motor Vehicle department look at the serial number of the chassis/pan. That's what they did for me and I got it changed from a special construction to 1954 Bug.

Re: Show Off Your Before and After!

Bought in '79. It was running, single port 1500. Fixed some wiring nightmares but drove it for years. About '84 one of my roommates was working at a chrome plating place, so I took the body off, painted it red and plated everything metal on the car I could get to. Still the stock 1500. Had the full ...

Re: Big Bad Brakes! Wow.

It's Airkewld's kit with the Wilwood calipers. The rest is all their machined stuff. The fronts haven't locked up yet. It doesn't have a proportioning valve, which I thought was interesting, but so far it seems very balanced. Maybe because when you tromp on the brakes a lot of the weight goes to the...

Big Bad Brakes! Wow.

My buggy was built on a '54 chassis and thus was "complete" with '54 drum brakes all these years. Which "could" be fun when slamming on the brakes because you never really knew where you're going to end up. Kind of a pump an hope scenario. We'll those days are gone for ever. I in...

Re: MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thanks, Merry Christmas back to all us buggy drivers! It's 48 degrees here this Xmas morning but I think I'm going to take the buggy out for a drive through the country this morning in Ohio. Ho, Ho, Ho!

Re: newbie buggy tips: truths about used buggys

So true. Having owned one for 35 years I have to agree. Single best thing ever did to my buggy was taking the existing roll hoop/bar and tying it into the front of the pan down by your feet making a roll-cage. It went from a flexi-flyer ride to go-cart handling. Shift and brake linkage can be horror...

Re: Newbie Buggy shopping

I'll throw this in for whatever it's worth. The single best thing I ever had done to my buggy was having a fabricator weld in the rest of the roll cage into the front of the buggy. All I had initially was the roll hoop behind the seat. By doing this it prevents the VW pan from twisting. That stabili...

Re: Original Meyers Manx Soft Top...

I had a custom towing cover made for a racecar I owned that I had made at a sail shop. They made custom sails and boat covers. I'm thinking of bringing my buggy back and having them match up the snaps and make a top. Need to get it down there and ask them then I'll repost. The custom racecar towing ...

Not sure if this is art, but my buddy who was an art teacher took the picture during a party in the early 80's. Yea, that's me baby!

Had this Buggy since 1979

I bought it from the next door neighbor of a friend of fine for $400. It was running and had a 1500cc motor in it then. Over the years I've fixed and upgraded chromed and painted. It now has a 2275 motor with a 48IDF Weber, HD Trans with OD 4th and some other goodies. I'll try and post some old pic'...
