Coil was my first thought. Condencers can do wierd things too. Random on and off failures usually point toward electrical. A bad ground can be a nuisense too.

I don't claim to be an expert on sealants, but have seen silicone fail with UV exposure, etc. Better than nothing but would suggest at least a urethane based goo if you want it to last. On the DSB forum it has an option to upload a photo from photobucket. It skips a few steps. The gallery shows all your photos and you just click on the one you want to post.
