Re: Tow'd help

Hi, you may have better luck with getting a reply by going to Manx Club Facebook site or The Samba website. This site does not see much traffic.

Re: Windshield to body rubber gasket

Pacific Customs in Corona, Amazon, Moore Parts In Anaheim are just some of the places to find the rubber seal for body to windshield frame. Pacific Customs even has the seal for the glass to frame.

Re: tire diameter rear

I have seen a 33-10.50-15 tire fit and not hit, but it all depends on wheel width, inset, and offset of wheel. And If using wheel adapters they have to be figured into the offset of wheel. It really to bad that the new owners of Meyers Manx dropped making Bruce’s favorite, The Kick Out as it had wid...

Re: tire diameter rear

Welcome t9 the Manx Club. One thing you will notice this site does not get a lot of traffic. Most have switched to using Facebook. If you not a Facebook person, The Samba is another great site that about VWs with a section for Dune Buggies. As to your question, if you plan on using a stock transaxle...

Re: What is this towd-ish car? who made it?

It is called a Stripper. It is fiberglass body over a tubular like sand buggy chassis. It was made so body would come off and have just the steel tube chassis to;go play in the dirt. It does have a double hoop roll bar like the Tow’d. Made by Chuck Beck and there was approximately 150 made. The book...

Re: Engine details for Old Red

Bruce built Old Red with parts from a wrecked 1963 Bug. More then likely he used the 40hp (1200cc) engine to begin with. Back then a 1500cc engine came in a Bus, but were not cheap or plentiful. You could at the time people did build a 1500cc engine out of 1200cc. You got a 1500cc crankshaft, had th...

Re: Adjustable irs spring plates

I have been using adjustable springs on my buggies for many years without any problems. A lot easier to adjust then removing and resetting the torsion bars.

Thank you Jon for posting. Good to see you having fun racing the Manx. Was it a stock spring plate that broke?

Re: WTB: Sidewinder exhaust

Since Meyers Manx does not appear to be selling any parts other the T shirts, you might try contacting Al’s Headers in Anaheim to see if he will make one for you. This was the place that was building them for Bruce and Winnie when they own the company.

Re: Master Cylinder and Brakes in General

Yes using the Bus master cylinder will work. Make sure the sleeves for the mounting bolts are there or you end up bending the dual plate part the master is mounted to in the chassis. Originally your chassis came with a master cylinder that was 19mm in diameter. Brake pedal will be a little harder to...

Jon, great video of your Manx in Baja. Thank you for sharing it.
Wish I could still do things like that. I had a lot of fun off road racing back in the 1970s and 1980s.

Re: Buggy questions

More than likely if it has the double spring plates connecting to the trailing arms your torsion bars were 26-9/16in long. You can replace them with the 1961-1967 short torsion bars that are 21-3/4in long and use aftermarket spring plates for use with the shorter torsion bars. The aftermarket spring...

Re: Distributor swap

What coil are you using? If it is is a stock VW Bosch black coil or the high performance Bosch blue coil, readings should be approximately between the two primary 1(-) and 15(+) 3 ohms and between either the 1 or 15 and secondary (where coil wire goes) should read approximately 10K ohms. This measur...
