Re: how to seal a leaky electric fuel sending unit

I would say that leaking fuel is not something to mess with. Pull the hood. It's possible that it could be a bad gasket seal, a crack in the sending unit flange, or a leak in the fuel line. In any case, definitely not something to take shortcuts on.

Re: transmission issue

Is it possible that your shift linkage is just out of adjustment? That you can adjust yourself. If not, what area do you live in? There are some decent VW transmission places out there. What ever you do, DO NOT take it to a regular automotive transmission shop as they are likely to charge you 2 to 3...

Re: Adjustable irs spring plates

We swapped out the longer torsion bars on our off-road buggy for the shorter ones some years ago. While we have not had any issues, I have also been told that the shorter bars tend to fail more in one way or another when used in any significant off-road capacity due to their repeated greater twist o...

Re: Type 1 Long Block

We purchased a new 1776 long block from Old Speed in Paramount 20 years ago. It's still running strong and I would go to them again. Give them a call.

Re: Windshield wiper advise.

I believe a manual wiper assembly that attaches to the windshield frame will also meet the code. You might want to look into going that direction if you don't want to fit the whole wiper motor assembly under the dash.

Re: what manufacture makes manx single loop roll bar

I don't know who produces the single hoop roll bar, but for safety reasons, I would recommend having a 4 or 6-point cage built for your buggy. While a single hoop looks cool and old school, it does not offer any protection in other than in a slow motion roll over. If there is any speed involved, it ...

Re: Buggy questions

Where are you located and what year is the pan? Depending on your region, there may be people local to you that can help you in your build, and may even have some gently used parts you need at lower cost than buying new.

Re: Help to Identify buggy please

Do you have any pics of the whole front and side profiles of the buggy from further back? The next to last pic is showing the condition of the fiberglass with the gelcoat beginning to peel off. You may want to look for something in better shape as to me that looks pretty rough and would take a lot o...

Parting Out '66 Pan

I have a '66 pan from our buggy that is rusted out and cracked beyond repair (20 years of "More Smiles Per Mile!"). As I am having a new chassis built, I no longer need the existing pan. If you are in search of something off of a '66 pan, let me know. The BJ front beam was replaced a few y...

Re: Sand Tire and Rim Selection

Also, the Desert Traks have a couple of ribs down the center that allow you to drive on hard pack or the street without beating you up or destroying your paddles. Not DOT compliant for street driving, but at least you can get from the parking lot to the sand without a problem. And the paddles aren't...

Re: Paint and body repair

A few years back, I crashed our buggy, damaging the front end pretty good. I took it to Abstract Fiberglass in Reseda to get repaired. Not only did they do a fantastic job making the repair seamless with the rest of the body, the color matching to the existing paint was spot-on. (The profile pic of ...
