Re: newbie buggy tips: truths about used buggys

One of the best things I did to my buggy was put a mild 1776 in it. The engine was built for reliability, with stock carb (re-jetted to match), stock cam, and CD ignition. It has stock rockers on solid shafts. Stock weight flywheel with counter-weighted crank. It's way smoother than the stock engine...

Re: Possible Sidewinder Slip joint leak solution?

I always had that problem too, so I bought some "t-bolt" style hose clamps and used them. I cut four slots into the end of each outer tube, 90 degrees apart, prior to installing the clamps. This makes it so that the clamp can "compress" the outer tube. I also rolled up some small...

Re: Huge Mistake, Bruce and Winnie Meyers

I have an authentic Manx, unless you don't consider the Signature Series cars to be "real" Manxes. Personally, I despise the idea of a "Manx only" club or event. Like others have said, the whole purpose of a buggy is to have fun, and something so exclusive is the exact opposite o...

Re: Deadline Approaching for the next Manx Mania

I have already posted my photos on Facebook. Does that make them ineligible for Manx Mania?

Re: Introducing the Manx Club "Long-Haul LEAGUE" award

Vincent, thanks for the response. Perhaps one day there will be an award for those who travel long distances off the pavement as well but I doubt many would recommend traveling off-pavement alone. I would! But only if you have the required backcountry experience. On pavement, not having everything ...

Re: Idling at 30°

Jay, you pretty much said you don't bet against Jon because he knows his VWs. I've certainly come to trust him. Congrats on the free fix, even if it did provide some trying times.

Re: Idling at 30°

Then the issue does seem to point towards something with your buggy. See you at Saint Joseph's.

Re: Idling at 30°

Considering how crappy the workmanship on 009 distributors can be, it wouldn't surprise me if they were both put together that way. It's about the only explanation for why they are both acting so strange while the Compufire unit didn't have this issue.

Re: Idling at 30°

I would agree with Pete that something is up with the distributor, but you said you tried two different ones with the same results. I would try what Jon suggested and bump the idle up on your carbs. As in WAY up at first, then start bringing the timing down and see if you can get it in spec. Strange...

Re: Idling at 30°

Here's some interesting reading on distributor drive pinion orientation: http://bobhooversblog.blogspot.com/2006/11/vw-flaming-distributors-batman_24.html Jay, when you say this problem "just cropped up", does that mean you were able to set the timing according to specs at one time? Are yo...

Re: phpBB Forum. WOW!

Thank you, Vincent and France! I can't imagine how painstaking it must have been to copy every single post over. It's yet another testament to how dedicated you two are to the fiberglass buggy world. Let's all honor this effort by making the Manx Club forum THE main hub of communication like it was ...

Re: Photo Test Thread

That's an excellent solution for a couple different issues. One of the reasons Facebook has so much traffic is ease of use. If this board is as easy or even easier to access from a Smart Phone, people should start using it instead of the "information black hole" that Facebook is!

Re: Photo Test Thread

Looks like there is a built-in limit to the size of the photos which can be hosted on this board. Anything over that limit will end up with scroll bars. Maybe this will help the Admins: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=1379855

Re: Photo Test Thread

The image from Photo Bucket is 800 X 533. For the other two photos, I've been using Image Resizer in Windows ( https://imageresizer.codeplex.com/ ). Let's see what happens if I use the Custom setting in Image Resizer to set the above photo to 800 X 533... IMG_1578 (Custom).jpg Hmmm. Nope, it looks l...
