I had a similar issue earlier this summer, and ended up getting a new battery...still was spotty.  Lights were bright, battery was good, but go to start it and nothing, no clicks, nothng. Old Manx...looking at your pics, my windshield is definitely not like that.  Mine has the channel molded in that I assume is for a soft top.  Hard to know if this is the original windshield frame or not, I will have to ask my Dad.  http://static.yuku.com/domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/happy.gif http...
